Local seller wants 25$ for a battery change

He says all G-Shocks are filled with special compressed gas and it must be done in a Lab, and that I cannot change it alone.

    Idiot ?

Not at all, he's quite right.

G-Shocks are filled with a gas called 'air'. To ensure their watches are completely filled with the gas, Casio keeps their factories filled with this 'air' at a pressure of around 1 bar.

Changing a battery outside of these carefully controlled conditions is likely to lead to the 'air' escaping, which will compromise the water resistance and reduce the life of the module.

This guy has got "gas" all right. It is called "hot air" and he's full of it. (I don't know if that expression translates, but you get the idea.)

It never ceases to amaze me how blatantly some people will lie just to squeeze a few bucks out of some unsuspecting consumer.

    Hehe it's my 7+ year old 6600 !

Lately Ive purchased the 7710, 2xEdifices, a GW530A, and looking at black metal band watch now (gw-810bd)

I postponed the Riseman purchase :) I decided I'm not going to wear it too often anyway. Plus the money is starting to run out :) lol.

Anyway I will go back there and hit him with the 6600 Bezel straight in the head.
Thanks for saving me 25 bucks.

thats almost as bad as the watchmaker who wanted to explain to me, that a BEZEL can not be exchanged, and i have to throw away the watch! i am still wondering, did he think i am stupid or is he just too stupid to really know it better?

Re: Local seller wants 25$ for a battery change

Some watch experts doing a sealing test after battery exchange.
I paied about the same amount once for that.
Then i decided to do the battery replacement myself.
If the G is not that expensive, the risk is rather low.

Without pressure test the exchange cost about 5-10€/$ here.

Special (helium or something) athmosphere is not needed in Gs.
Also at assembly line the watches are sealed "open air"
