Looking for first - 5600 series

I've been reading the forums, but with so many models, I'm having a hard time narrowing down which watches I want. I'm looking at the 5600 line as it doesn't seem to be too large. If I like these, I may move up in size and grab different models.

Off the bat, I do want the GLX5600-7 (White G-Lide) or the GW-M5600-7 to wear occasionally. How much importance do you guys/gals put on a watch having solar. Without knowing the true benefits (that is, if I would really need to be changing batteries often if I opted to go without the solar), I could take it or leave it. This will be worn occasionally.

What are some good, reputable places to buy from? Good prices are always a plus. I've looked on eBay but I don't know who is selling legit stuff.

    ______

For my second, I'm looking for an everyday watch. I am looking at the GLX5600-1. If I choose this watch, I know I will be swapping out the straps for ones with a matte finish, thus increasing the price ($35 from tiktox, before shipping).

I looked at the GW5600-J1, but it doesn't show the day and date which would prove to be an annoyance.

With many of the other watches in the 5600 line, I am not attracted to them due to many of the colors in the face of the watch. Shallow, I know.

Any other models I should be looking at? Again, I chose the 5600 because it isn't as big as the others. They seem massive on the wrist and for my first G, I figure I'll try something smaller.

    ANY help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I'd get the dw5600e. Basic square and a classic. No solar, so no need to keep it facing daylight whenever you're not using it.

Plus 24hr stopwatch and countdown timer. And you can see the time even in the stopwatch and countdown timer modes.

It is the cheapest of the 5600 series.

    DW5600E-1V - G-Shock - Timepiece - Products - CASIO

I am wearing this G right now.

The Glx5600 is a great choice : its only downside is that it doesn't show time in other modes. (the GWM shows time in timer and alarm mode)
The solar option is nice but isn't better than the 10 year battery of the glx.
both glx and gwm are excellent (they are slightly smaller than the dw5600)

If you want a way not to spend too much money, you can for example do this :
buy a GLX5600-7 and a GWM5600 only (without additional bezel etc), and swap between them : the result would be like this :

Note that the GLX5600-7 has a pale blue on the tide window.
It's a different blue from the darker blue of the GLX5600-1. It's slightly more elegant IMO.

+ 1, My DW-5600E gets more wrist time than all my other G's, its just a great model.
Experience is what you end up with when you didn't get what you wanted.

Re: Looking for first - 5600 series

The DW5600E is fine really, but in order to show why I prefer the GLX5600, here are the features of both :
(both have 24h timer and stopwatch, by the way)

1- features of the DW that don't exist on the GLX :
    -time shown in timer mode
    -time shown in stw mode

2- features of the GLX that don't exist on the DW :
-comfortable buttons for time setting forward and backward (instead of forward only)
    -10 year battery (cr2025 instead of cr2016)
-several alarms, including the snooze (vs 1 alarm without snooze)
-possibility to set an alarm on a specific date ***EDIT : also exists on DW5600E ***
    -world time, with dst
    -mute option
-possibility to modify the EL duration (1.5s or 3s)
-possibility to enable the EL when reached alarm or cdt
-possibilty to enable auto EL when tilting the watch
-auto calendar until 2099 (instead of 2039)
-and obviously, moon and tide graph

Overall, my personal preference goes to the GLX, even if I miss the time shown in other modes (by the way the time shown in alarm mode would be nice but isn't supported by the DW5600E either.)

Good comparison. One correction - the DW5600E can set the alarm for a a specific date. I have mine set right now. But you are right that the the DW5600E has only ONE alarm, whereas the GLX has several.

By the way, do all the GLX series watches have a glossy finish?

Thanks for the correction, I didn't know the DW could set an alarm on a specific date too.
All the GLX5600 have a glossy finish, except for the 2 jelly models that were issued this summer. But with the possibility of swapping bezels it almost becomes a non-issue.
