Question Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

    Dear Masters of the G-Force...

I have a query. I am a very pleased owner of the MRG-7000DJ and have been using it day in & out for months. My eyesight is not the greatest and sometimes it is quite difficult to view the info in the small but crisp screen. Is there anyone out there that knows if a small rectangular magnifier can be attached to the sapphire lens? If there is a maker of such an item? :thanks

    Hi Flurbin -

Nice to meet you and awesome MRG

I have never seen such a device, although you would think someone makes it.

For your particular MR-G with the small rectangular digital display, I would say that maybe a cyclops window (as they are referred to by Rolex enthusiasts) might possibly work.

I am thinking that the cyclops window from a Seiko monster (the limited edition yellow model) would fit the bill. I am certain that these magnifying windows are just glued on with clear adhesive.

Thumbs Up Re: Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

To All Who have replied :thanks

    To Derek N:
    • Thank you for the heads up on the cyclops window - I will begin my search and let the G-Shock community here what my results are.
    • I will also try to get more photos of the watch with much higher quality.
    Thanks again.

Confused Re: Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

Update: I have been discussing this issue with one of my watchsmiths and the cyclops window is a glass piece that is attached with a clear adhesive. They come in a variety of sizes but he was unable to get a rectangular one as seen on the Seiko Yellow Monster. Searching Google or Ebay did come up a couple of watchsmiths but no reply to email for past three days. The search continues....

Re: Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

Just an idea, maybe useless...a cutout from one of those "Fresnel" type plastic text-magnifyers might be of help? Agreed, not very elegant. An alternative could be ...reading glasses.
(I know all about not being able to read small letters, my default "Outlook express" email text size has been set to 14! One of these days I must ask my ophtomologist (WHAT?) to get his laser out for me!)

Smile Re: Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

    The hunt thus far...
Thanks to the threaders at the Seiko WUS section - I got an insight to a company that sells cyclops windows for flat crystals...
    Otto Frei Watch Supplies

    Of note...
The cyclops window on the Seiko Yellow Monster is (1) part of the crystal itself and (2) the crystal is curved.

I have purchased a large (6.9mm x 5.5 mm) and extra-large (7.5mm x 6.3mm) lens with the special crystal cement that dries clear under UV (ie sunlight).

Once here, I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again for all your guidance.:thanks

Exclamation Re: Magnifying the LCD info window on the MRG-7000DJ?

    The Final Assessment:

I received the cyclops windows, tested out the viewsight and...

Unfortunately, with the XL size, there is much distortion such that it is more difficult to view the LCD screen with it than without.O| I am not an expert on crystal optic physics but, again, with the CW - it is worse to view. I guess I will excercising my eye muscles to the max!

Any other suggestions? If not, then I will end this thread.

Thanks everyone! Onward and upward with the Casio MR-Gs!!! :gold
