    making mudman screws black

    Is there an easy way to make the stainless steel screws holding the band on black?

    Take the screws off, and sand them all a little. Then paint them (sanding will help the paint adhere).

    Or...just use a sharpie and "color" the heads black. But they will be a kind of shiny black. Repeat coats of sharpie if necessary.

    You could go the extra step and even buy a primer to use before painting them to get maximum adhesion. I think the primer will also help etch the screw heads.

    I'm thinking along the lines of a spray can paint. You'll hardly use any though...the screws are quite tiny .

    edit: and to make it easy to handle, just poke the screws thru some cardboard so that just the heads are visible. This will keep you from painting the threads, and also let you hold the screws far enough away from the spray can that "runs" aren't formed.

    Birchwood/Casey makes a pen (marker) that is used for touching up black parts on guns. You can buy it at sporting goods stores. It works really well.
