Auction just ended. The hammer dropped at a mind blowing ¥346,000!!! (That's a cool $4.4K US)

Definitely the craziest bidding session for a G-Shock I've ever watched.

OK, which one of you nut-jobs is getting it?

LOL not I. Rather spend 4K USD towards a white dial Explorer II

I'm expecting the first one to be re-listed soon.

We now know what the current market price is for this Frog. If you're not willing to fork out $4K+, like me, you might as well just cross it off your list and forget it ever existed.

Hype is a funny thing - it does sweep one up, and if course the value others place on things will influence us legitimately (most of this is about personal taste after all). But in a sense it's almost a relief when things get silly and the hype pushes firmly past the point of diminishing returns.

In that sober light I look at my single frog, bought at approximately 1/10th the price of this MasterMind, and I realize that I still think it's the best looking frog ever produced and has the best feature set (for me). If I didn't know the prices I believe I would still pick this one out of the lineup of all the frogs out there.

I guess that makes me pretty lucky .

^ Well said, Robbi. I feel exactly the same way, but about this one...

Imagine how much a BNIB MasterMind would fetch nowadays.

I would definitely purchase one in a heartbeat, as long as the watch is 100% condition and unworn.

This LE, along with the highly-revered DW-5500, are worthy investments imho.

I don't know if I would consider it a worthy investment

Several years ago, the Bape G-shocks commanded a premium

A NOS white or black rainbow bape would sell for $600 or $700. Now they go for $200-$300.

When the mastermind came out, there weren't many limited gwf-1000's. As casio produces more "must have" limiteds, people tend to forget about the old ones. I would not be surprised if you can get a new Dee and Ricky from some bored collector for $100 ten years from now. There are many limiteds that were a big deal in the 90's that can be had cheap now. Like the white parachute riseman... which might go for $100

As for the 5500, its value seems tied to the poor quality resin so why buy something that might crumble into dust in a few years? Or weeks?

There was one on eBay last week, brand new with tags for USD7900. I checked my history to show the link but it doesn't seem to keep eBay pages.

EDIT: forgot to say, I don't think it sold, it was removed after the time was up.
