    Military issued Casio ??

    Hi folks:

Would someone be able to tell me anything about this type of Casio? I'm curious to know what model it is, if it can be serviced in the U.S.? The photo was posted on another forum, and is not my own. thnaks to the original photographer!

I appreciate any help, and thanks in advance!

    Best,
    Tom

    hi tom

in my opinion the US military - and the military of other countries as well - doesn't care much about what kind of watches their soldiers wear. I don't think there are any regulations for that. I believe that G-Shocks are probably the most weared watches in any army, because of their thoughness, and the affordable price. they can easily replaced when you lose it or break it (well, that should be almost next to impossible)

however, that model shown on the pic seems to be a basic G-Shock. I thinks it's a DW90xx model, the closest match I found was this:

    Hi Tom,

It looks like a DW-004C; but I would check it with Sjors or Ozzie on this forum, for the right model; for service I would do a Google search for a casio dealer near you; hope this helps.

    Greetings All,
I believe to my eyes it looks like a dw-9000. I think the nearest thing I've seen in the flesh is the dw-9052. Ofcourse I've have been known to make mistakes. (My Apologies ADAN!!)

Given that the dw-9052 was sold everywhere, I don't see why they wouldn't service it.
Now whether they can do so competantly, is another matter. Some people in the past had an issue or two with various centres.

This is becoming more and more true. Years ago they came out with Mil Spec's for watches because most watches were for dress and not tough so the gov'ts would issue contracts to watch makers who could make watches that met the requirements of accuracy, durability, etc.

Now days almost any such spec is far surpassed by any decently water resistant quartz watch. The fact that some of these are encased in a tank of an outer housing only adds to the durability [G-Shock].

Thank G. the army doesn't issue their own watches! The would each cost at least US$ 10,000 of tax payer's money to produce, and it'd all be destined for export to the middle-east, a nett loss! :-X

G-Shock's and other casio watches are sold in Military shops in big Military bases. Like the NASA astronauts, military are free to wear a watch of which type they find necessary for the job. Many soldiers choose for G-Shock. Maglite, Rayban and Buck knives are also very popular brands in those shops (as there are probably a lot more) as liquors and parfumes too. They are all sold tax free, soquiet cheap for military. I bought a 4xD-Cell type Maglite and Jean Paul Gaultier Parfume for Eva in such a shop when I was serving in a German base.

    Cheers,

    Sjors

    Hi Tom -

I've sold a heap of G-Shock's to the boys in action location Mid. East, and they have purchased mainly FROGMAN'S, although many other's have also gone including a red DW-002 which was involved in MANY skirmishes along the way.

Here's a quick photo of "No. 1" Tallest guy, left hand with he's DW-002
