    Module Swap

    Hello,

    I have a GW-M5610 with a 3159 module.

    I just bought a DW-5750.

Does anyone know if the 3159 in my 5610 will swap into the case of the 5750, or alternatively will the bezels be interchangeable?

I fancy a 5750 with solar and atomic...

    Thanks!

I don’t think so because of Solar, but YMMV

I agree, to have solar you'd have to take out the solar panels and swap them too.

Not even sure they will come out, especially without breaking them!

Try the GWX-5700CS-1. It has the 5700 look but with tough solar and MB6 atomic receiving :)

Cool. I didn’t know if the solar panels were part of the module or what.

Also I was unaware of the gwx-5700. I will check that out!

The GWX-5700 is probably the best route to a solar, multi band 5700, but if you want to get creative with a dremel and scrape the printing off the inside of the crystal to let the light through to the solar panel, you may be able to squeeze the whole guts of a 5610 into the case of a 5750. How well it works will depend on

    - gross obstructions (like if the module is too thick for the case to close, or if the corners of the module don’t clear and can’t be trimmed safely)

    - gross voids (like if the module rattles around in the case) — but maybe you can add packing for these, by carefully cutting pieces of rubber.

    - how similar the button positions are

I got lucky with the module from a G-7700 and the case from a DW-5750, and it was actually all quite straightforward once I committed to making irreversible mods with a dremel.

    GWX-5700

Is what you want. Besides the solar panel issue, there is the issue with the waveceptor antenna. It is usually attached to the inside of the case with a ribbon cable connecting to the module.
