Multiple Murakami Frogman GWF-1000TM-4JR for sale on Yahoo Japan.

Hello, I wanted to make the members here aware of something that looks a bit unusual to me. I know that the last Murakami Frogman to sell was the subject of a long thread here, and there was a lot of doubt (myself included) about what really happened given the extremely high price realised. Now a very curious thing has happened. Listed on Yahoo Japan in the last 2 days, are suddenly 4(!!!) of these watches. Here are the links to the auctions:

    1) (Finished) http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/j...ion/p362231447

For those of you that cannot read Japanese, all of the ads are quite similar, mentioning the record previous price, and the chance to get one far cheaper. Also very unusual (for Japan at least), is the fact that a couple of them use dated proof in the scans, to show that they actually own/possess the watch. Notice also that none of the auctions show the actual caseback of the watch, or list the serial number. I will let the members here draw their own conclusions about what may be going on. Note that I am in no way involved or connected to any of these auctions. I have always fancied the Murakami Frogman, and saw these auctions, but have decided that I will not purchase one unless I can inspect it in hand, and have complete confidence in the provenance of the watch and the seller.

    Best regards, Tokeiski

May I remind you here that it is actually not allowed to post live links to auctions on the forums. The past has proven that this guideline isn't quite useless, though I do not think there are many members here can or are willing to pay 4000/$5000 for a Frogman instantly (first one ended with no bids).

    Cheers,

It was the Mastermind that was re-released, not the Murakami

and there were actually 300 Murakami Frogman watches made

    Those prices are insane.

You know, on closer inspection, the case inside that special jelly resin is just like a standard vanilla 1000 series frog. Silver eye, same crystal graphics? Just a special screwback graphic and that very pink presentation box...so basicall that's the most expensive resin ever :)

If we ever get a jelly 1000 series frog like the glorious gold series for example, we'd potentially see a lot of lookalikes appearing :)

Anyway for that super inflated amount I'd think I'll prefer 3 or 4 of the Ti 1000 series frogs instead!

Well, you actually forget one thing. Takashi Murakami is a worldwide well known artist. So, you must considder the watch and specially also the package, as a limited re-produced piece of art.

It's different from the inflated prices of the brand collabs maybe. They just represent a brand plus Casio G-Shock. I think this model goes further. A silkscreen print of Andy Warhol does probably also not cost the prive of the paper and reproducing techniques

    Cheers,

    Sjors

P.S. I usually don't defend inflated prices, but I see this really different from other ltd ed.
