My dad wearing a square in 1986?

Found this old picture of my dad, and he seems to be wearing a square shaped digital watch.

The picture was taken in 1986.

Can you guys help verify if this is the real deal?

Square is generic and quintessential form of digital watch in late 70s and 80s till early 90s.
At this quality it hard to make it out. It could be it, but it can be anything from regular Casio to Timex or countless Hong-Kong made clones (it's not new).
Statistically speaking chances of it's been G-Shock are not 100% at all. more like 10% at max. G-Shocks were not popular during decade.

    I thought something similar.
The outer shape might be from a DW-5000 family watch (which should be the only family of Gs out at this time)
If this is a DW-5000 type watch then the dial looks to bright.
For the DW-5000 the red stripe is not visible while the brickfave might provide this bright of a reflection.
For the later versions of the DW-5XXX im aware of the dial is too bright.

    EDIT:

    It might be a WW-5100!

You see no pictures in my post?
Photobucket decided to lock my pics behind a 40$/month prescription service.
I used their services since 2009 so the most of my old threads have Photobucket pics inside.
If you stumble across one of those threads and want to see the pic, PM me and i will re-attach it.

Something about the contour of the band looks off, as though it might be on a nylon band. Maybe a G-Shock-alike? One of those Shark surf watches?

WW-5100 looks like a good guess though.

I had a square Casio around '83 - but it was no G-shock.

G-SHOCK WW-5100 seems possible. If not a G-SHOCK, but still a Casio, than perhaps something in the realm of a WW-710.

    the shape isn't right for a G-Shock.

    Maybe something like the TM15?

Seems too square to be a G square, if that makes any sense. G square is not exactly rectangle.

that was also my thought. There were plenty of Casio this shape back in the early 80's but not many with a light colored dial like that (and thicker black outer resin)
