it's been about a half year since I bought a non-G. During this time I grew attached to the G-Shock community here so I thought I'd share my latest purchase - after all there are some Seiko fans here too.
A little bit about the background of this purchase:
For quite some time I've been looking for an ana-digi watch. But being a big fan of the 24hr CDT it was clear from the start that it wouldn't be a G-Shock. Besides I don't like the look of most of the ana-digi Gs (with some exceptions like the AW-582 for example). So I looked at Citizen first but it seemed like they only make ana-digis with 99min CDT - so this wasn't enough for me either. So finally I looked for a Seiko with a 24hr CDT and I found one - the SNJ023P1 with the cal. H024 (there are other Seikos with the same mvt but this one looks best I think). So I went looking for it on the bay but could not find a German seller that carried it - and the problem is that most Seikos get confiscated on import to be checked for authenticity (I think it's more to keep people from buying cheaply from abroad and rather buy from a local Seiko store and pay more) which can take a while - some people even reported that watches have been scratched during this procedure. So I remembered that a fellow member on a German watch forum had two of these and I asked him where he got them - he immediately offered to sell me his unworn (!) SNJ023P1 on bracelet for a very good price and I couldn't resist (after studying the manual almost every day for a week or so). So yesterday it arrived - I had the bracelet adjusted today and now it sits proudly on my wrist and here are the pics:
the negative display is very easy to read and the lume is great - like on any Seiko - easily lasts the whole night when charged before going to bed
a little blingy but a nice mixture of polished and brushed surfaces
could probably be used for opening these walnuts
compared to the G-7710C it doesn't look to big but that's almost an optical illusion because it's really a big watch with a massive and very substantial feel to it
- analogue and digital time (can also be set to just show day and date digitally on the time-keeping screen)
- 1/1000 sec STW
- hourly time signal wich unfortunately can only be turned on/off together with the button operation sound
- 23hr 59min CDT (if set to 00:00 the countdown won't work - unlike on most Gs)
- two daily alarms
- 165 grams
- 43mm diameter w/out the buttons
So this is a great watch which wears very comfortable with the bracelet. The buttons are easy to use. The display looks great and also the overall design. Lume is great too. I must say so far I'm very satisfied with my first ana-digi.
