    Question My G Shock

    Hello all,

My Casio G Shock is circa 1985 or so. I know this because I got it at the begining or either my freshman or sophmore year of high school. On the back it says in a circular pattern: CASIO [901] DW5600 JAPAN H ST.STEEL 200M WATER RESISTANT. In the middle of the circle is the phrase SHOCK RESISTANT.

This watch has been EVERYWHERE. I had this watch in the arctic and the antarctic. It's seen more mileage than most people in two life times. I friggin love it. My old friend is however going to be in need of a new band soon. Can I get a factory replacement? I would also like to know if there is an owners manual for it anywhere? IS this the first model of G shock? Also can the light inside be replaced? It's not as bright as it used to be but who is?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Battlemoose,

The DW-5600C bezels are still available. Be sure to order a DW-5600C and not a DW-5600E bezel. For the US contact Casio sales and service (by phone!), for the rest of the world try Tiktox. You can also contact our member ADAN (Spain). I thought he has 5600C bezels too! Maybe a search on our WUS salescorner can do good too. I actually bought a refresment kit there. Your watch is worth the refreshment.

    Cheers,

    Sjors

unfortuniately, i can only find the manual in japanese:

    http://ftp.casio.co.jp/pub/manual/ww/qw901.pdf

but the operation is pretty simple and straight forward. the only thing i didn't notice is the rem (reminder) function. if you hold the lower right button down in current time mode until it beeps, the reminder indicator will keep flashing until you disable it (the same way you activiate it). that's the only feature i didn't know about until i read the instruction :-D

that's a great watch you have there. if the bulb is getting dim, maybe its time for a battery change (have you ever gotten a battery change out of it during the whole time that you have it)?

you can DYI or send it to Casio for a battery change + seal change + pressure test

it will serve you for anther +10 years if you take cares of it

Tiktox service is very good. They don't usually ship to Singapore, however Keith made an exception.

Thanks for the info. A japanese manual :-D I'll have to work on my japanese.
You know, now that you mention it I dont remember changing the battery on it, but I must have, it's like 21 years old. Hell it's of drinking age. I would love to have it detailed out with new seals and such, whom do I contact?

I sent my recently purchased DW-5600C to http://www.casiosalesandservice.com/ for a battery replacement, pressure check and a new bezel & band. Cost for all, a whopping $36. Mine has a couple of broken bezel screwsO|. So much for trying to remove them myself.

I also just nabbed this one on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Give yours a face lift and you'll have it for another 20yrs. It's a great watch.

Sounds like a nice model Battlemoose and your story sounds similar to my RAYSMAN which has been through it all since 1998, and only ever required a new seals update from CASIO Japan:gold
