Exclamation NEED ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCED G-SHOCKERS! (G-7800b vs GW-2310)

    Hello G-Shock community,

Lately I realised that I have never had a (proper) watch and, after searching the web for the absolute best, I came upon the world of G-Shock.

After looking at many different models, studying their features, prices, etc. I have narrowed down my search to two lovely models: the G-7800b and the GW-2310.

Both of them have got their Pros and Cons (for my needs), which I will list bellow. I would like to know the opinion of people who have owned these watches or at least have seen them up close.

    G-7800b

    PROS
    -Different, non-typical G-Shock design
    -Large face
    -Cool looking negative diplay
-Highly customizable (different date displays, different font settings, 2 memos, changeable contrast, etc.)
-Different alarms (once, daily, weekday, weekend)
    -LED lights

    CONS
-Seems difficult to read in dark conditions
    -5 year battery life

    GW-2310

    PROS
    -More classic G-Shock design
    -Solar powered
    -Clear display

    CONS
    -Small display
-Unnecessary Multi Band 6 (no reception in my country)
    -Less customizable
    -Only daily alarms
    -More expensive

I think that's it. I like both watches and would get both if I could. I have never owned a G-Shock before, but I know they are durable, cool-looking watches.

I hope the more experienced G-Shockers can help me out. I will be waiting for your feedback!

    :thanks

EDIT: I just discovered that there is a 7800 with a positive display. Though not as cool-looking, the display seems more legible. What do you recommend?

I've owned the 7800 but not the 2300, although I did once own the original G-2310.

The 7800 is a striking design, but of the two, it's the one you might be most likely to tire of. The positive version, whilst more legible, doesn't look as good. The 2310 is an acknowledged classic, and is the one I prefer.

You might also like to check out the sizes because (from memory) they are significantly different. The 7800 certainly wears 'big'.

You might also be interested to know that there is a G2310R, which is cheaper than the GW2310 because it lacks atomic sync, which you don't need. I like it very much, I have to say.

    Welcome to the forum!

If you like the G-7800B - go for it! The display is the best negative display I have seen so far (and I have quite a number of negative display G-Shocks). Here's one shot in sunlight and one in dim light:

The contrast is adjustable but I always keep it on the highest setting. The features are excellent - it would be perfect if it showed current time in other modes which it doesn't (but the GW-2310 doesn't show current time in other modes either). In Germany they are no longer sold - so get one while they are still easily available.

    Hi tribe125,

    Thanks for your quick response!

The 7800 does seem big and my wrist is quite small which might look awkward. I had also considered the G-2310r but the blue date box just annoys me (I am quite a picky person).

I will take your advice into consideration!

Wow Sedi, the 7800 looks great in those pictures!

I do think the big display makes up for the negative display. What I like about the 7800 is that it looks both casual and formal.

    Thanks for the pics!

    HAHAHA!

I think I will get the 7800, it has that real wow factor and looks completely different from other G-Shocks.

I might get the 2310 in the future or wait for a new model to arise.

You guys have been really helpful.

Oh, I had a question. Does the 7800 battery really last 5 years, or is it more/less with normal use?

Probably more - Casio is very conservative when it comes to battery life. The battery used in the G-7800B is a CR2025 which is also used in the '10-year-battery'-models like the AE-1000/2000 or G-2900. So if you don't use the light/alarms excessively you'll probably get more than 5 years out of it.
Here's a look on the module with battery:

Doesn't changing the battery affect the waterproofness of the watch?

And do the holes in the strap get filled with dirt easily?
