Need opinion on G-Shock purchase: PAW1300-1V vs PAG80-1V

    Hi G-Shock fans,
My brother is looking for some advise on his new watch. But I don't know G-Shocks at all. Can you please give me your opinion on these 2 choices. Any other choices similar to these are welcome too..
    • PAW1300-1V (#1) $209 newer one, atomic function (does it work in all over the world?)
    • PAG80-1V (#2) $179, basic.
    • both have world time.
Which one is more useful. I can't spot the difference beside the style & atomic function.

    Thanks you all.....

As you had mentioned there isn't any difference between atomic and the style. Both will perform pretty much the same. Obviously the PAW1300 is preferable as it is newer, nicer looking (imo) and is atomic. However the other is cheaper.

Its entirely up to you, is it worth paying more for the features?

Personally I'd make this guy an offer and get the PRG80T.

All the features of the PAG80 but titanium and nicer looking for around the same price.

    hi meenyc,

first of all, neither of those two watches are g-shocks. they are pathfinders (pro-treks).

the PAW1300 series is very flat (only about 12mm thick) and has the more advanced module compared to the PAG80. the atomic feature is great but will not work in the whole world. there are 5 transmitters: US, UK, Germany and Japan (2x) and while they cover a good part of the world there are still regions where they don't reach (africa for instance).

personally I would choose the PAW1300 but thats a matter of opinion. if your brother is looking for a REAL big, chunky watch, then he might get better awway with the PAG80. if he doesn't need a compass, barometer, altimeter and thermometer at all, he might want to buy a g-shock instead...

    regards, holger

thanks for all your opinion, much appreciated.

    Holger,
I have zero knowledge about the digital world. I thought they all (bulky looking chrono) are G-Shock...

I truely don't know if my brother will use all functions, since he is a city kinda guy, don't do treking. He is kinda gadget savy and think they are all cool to have, the more is better. Only thing that I'd need in his home town (Boston) is a compass. The streets there are like spider web unlike the square blocks city I'm in. I always lost there as well.

Atimeter may be in handy to see how high your office is, when you need to jump off in case of fire or any emergency. LOL...

Speaking of atomic technology, if the AT watch is in the area/country where there's no AT reception. What would happen? ould it stop tickling after a while?

    Regards,
    Mee

With no AT, the good old quartz will just be running along fine.

I have just gotten a paw-1300. The module used in this is,imho, is far superior to any other model. As far as the size of the watch is is a bit thinner, but it is sure not tiny!

There is also the Atomic version of the PRG-80 and that is the PAW-1100 which is sold with a metal band in JC Penny's this combines the chunky PRG-80 with atomic time

    Cheers

One feature the 1300 has over the other models is a "Bearing Memory" for the compass... let you store / lock a heading (direction) into memory with a click of a button (similar to sunnto core, etc).

paw1100, paw1200, prg80, 70, 40 etc... are all missing this feature and only include standard compass.

no biggie.. but something the 1300 has over the rest...

Edit: the 1400 also has this feature and the prg110 and some others... check for it in the listings..
