I too would recommend a Baby-G. They are designed and fashion coordinated with females in mind. Will your friend be using the watch for outdoor activities? Baby-G's come in many styles that suit both rugged activity and fashion.
Buying a watch for a female is very tricky. As men, we look for watches based upon its rugged design and features. I believe women base their choices on style and color coordination. I am not kidding... my wife will only wear a certain watch coordinated with what she is wearing, while I will choose a watch on what function it will serve for that particular day/activity.
Sorry for that rant. But yes, a Baby-G will be the best choice; and there is such a great variety to choose from, plus they are very affordable too.
