    Negative display: Not impressed!

    Hi all,

Just passed by a shop that had a selection of Casio G-Shocks. I had a look at the negative display Rally Mudman. I had the regular Rally Mudman on my wrist, so I could easily compare the two.
I have to say I would never go for it. I could read it very clearly when looking directly at it but as soon as you look slightly from the sides, away go the numbers... Also, the glare from the lights around me seemed to bother the negative display a lot more than my regular one.

This is supposed to be the new generation of negative displays right? Well, they still don't impress me. Fair enough, the numbers are very crisp when looking straight at it, but change the angle and they are no longer readable "at a glance".

    Just my impression...

I have to say that the negative display of my G7710 is very clear also from the side, from any angle. Much better than my G2500 (which is quite an old model with regular display). So maybe it depends on the model.

Bjorn, I think you will find vairied opinions on the reverse displays just as we have different opinions on differnet G-Shock models.you will have people try to convience you to go for a reverse dispaly and some that will agree with you 100%. I have both postive and negative display G-Shocks and love them both dearly.

I'm glad you were able to make your choice based on the absolute best way, by comparing them side by side and by doing so, you made the best decision for you!

I have positive and negative G's and like them both.

One thing that I have noticed is that I feel my negative (GW-M5600BC) has a better / clearer display at night when the back light is turned on than my positive (GW-6900). The date / time is easy to read on both, but all the other data is easier to read on the 5600.

The GW6900 is easier to read in low light conditions without the back light and they are both the same in good light conditions.

Reverse is okay for me except when its dark. But lit up, it looks AWESOME
Also, it flickers in bright sun

afaik the G-7710 and the G-7800 have the easiest and best to read neg. displays so far (at least i haven't seen anything better from casio yet). in my opinion they are often better to read than some of the pos. displays. especially at night with el-backlight, a negative illumination is WAY ahead of every pos. illumination. its just a lot easier for the human eye when it only sees the digits light up (and looks lightyears cooler anyway).

the ideal digital watch however, has a very crisp and clear pos. display with a neg. illumination - this way you get best of both worlds, a reason why the SGW-100 is worth more than just a look IMO.

The neg mudman display is notoriously hard to read. The other newer neg displays are much clearer by comparison, but a lot of people buy the muddy because it is more stealthy looking.

Yeah it's stealth vs clarity. Pros & cons.
