    Negative Rangeman Hydro Mod

Following on from my successful GW-M5610 hydro mod I decided to “oil” my Neg- Rangeman. This was a little more “involved” than the square. I can however see a definite improvement in legibility, the solar panel pops a bit more and there’s a big improvement in the date/graph area.

As before, I followed tommy.arashikage’s steps from his Tough Solar Hydro Mod Method thread. Apart from stripping out the “eye” plate to help get rid of one major bubble, the process was very similar. It just took a little longer to get the bubbles out. Anyone else attempting this should note I found that the rubber plate domed slightly when re-inserting and before replacing the securing tabs and case back.

Truth be told, I was “bricking it” on this one and as my gloved hands were coated in silicone oil, I didn’t manage any photos of the process. Sorry!

Here’s some (dirty) shots I did manage.

Wow kenls! This is next level stuff.
    Great work!

Looking forward to more pics of this piece. Also curious to see how it holds up over time...fingers crossed that it remains stable.

    Thanks for sharing!

Cheers tommy.arashikage. It was a little fraught as initially I had a huge bubble, so big it looked like the crystal had cracked. I set it aside and had dinner. Returned to it refreshed and removed the “eye” plate and did some chasing. Looking at it closely now, I think though I may have marked the inner glass with the plastic spudger in the process, so may have to re-do after trying to remove the marks. I’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on how it performs as I was/am a little concerned about the amount of curve that the rubber washer took on. But so far so good., no leaks as yet.

Cheers guys. Yep, @Adam20, everything works fine. Like my hydro’d squares, autolight function is not working, but the light does work as does the keytones.

Thanks Dennis. I’ve given this one the cosmetic surgery before so I wasn’t too concerned about removing his innards again. I had planned on doing the mod at the weekend but I thought, “what the heck”. The end result justified the work, in my opinion anyway. The screen is clearer and that was my goal.

Cool! And did you fill it up the whole watch without any bubbles? And what kind of oil did you use for it? Love to see more pics also.

Nice job Ken! This is another watch that really benefits from hydro modding, especially for helping with the legibility of the negative display.
