    Nervous about non-solar

    Hi all,
Bought a dw6900, my first non-solar G or non-auto dive watch, on the praises of members here. I'm really liking it! The features and alarms do seem better than my solar/atomic Mudman. I'm still a little hesitant to use features because I don't want to have a dead battery when I need the watch. I don't think changing the battery is a big deal, but it's a new concern after having a solar model. Any thoughts to ease my mind?

p.s. I have a glx5600 coming in the mail that I'm very excited about, too.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi,
don't worry - there'll be enough signs of a weaker battery before it goes dead: weak illumination, slightly fading digits. Can still be some months before it shuts down completey. One Example: My DW-6600 showed signs of the battery getting weaker a year ago - since I almost never wear it, it's still functioning although I notice when changing modes that the screen doesn't react as quickly as it used to.

    Greetings, Sedi
    Cheers

As Sedi wrote there is a lot of pre-warning before the battery fails.

My first DW-6900 lived about 3 years on the first battery (playing around with the then new illuminator on the then only G ).
But when i was used to have a illuminator and just used it when i need it, the battery life went up to 5years +.

So you only wear one watch on each wrist, Nate? Hmm. I should try that. It would really lighten my load!

    brian,

as the other nice members already wrote, there is nothing to worry about. the CR2016 lithium cell in your watch is a pretty tough boy, that should run for many years and never will let you down instantly, but die hard

    enjoy your 6900

    cheers

When in doubt I have always just installed a new battery, about a three minute job, then you will know that you at least have 3 years of battery life pushing the buttons as many times as you want. I personally have changed more CTL1616 batteries out of need than CR2016's. Super durable battery Casio has chosen and I have had excellent durability from it.
Experience is what you end up with when you didn't get what you wanted.

Thanks for the reassurance, all! Just got my new GLX5600-1 yesterday! It's like a whole new world has opened up, now that I consider buying battery operated G shocks. Thanks!
