    New to G-Shock

Greetings everyone! I am a new "Watchuseeker" and an avid lover of watches. I spent the better part of my adulthood addicted to lesser expensive (especially Russian) mechanical watches but I have recently come to accept the fact that I destroy every mechanical or quartz analog watch I buy. I also (in the last year) have developed an allergy to all stainless steel watches or leather watches with an all stainless case (I don't think the case-back on a G-Shock will be a problem for me). I was wearing a Citizen Eco-Drive all stainless Blue Angel and broke out in a rash all over my wrist that took a month to heal. The same thing happened with an all stainless Fossil I had. I finally reached the conclusion that I needed something that I could NOT destroy, that would last me for many (hopefully) years, and something that I hopefully wasn't allergic to. While I have seen them many times and even passed them in the Wal- Mart Jewelry section, I never gave the G-Shock a second thought. However, in my search for what I considered the least destructible and most reliable watch, I found the G-Shock. Being a Navy veteran, I wanted something that was relied upon by the U.S. Military and I quickly discovered that most of the mechanical and quartz analog watches that are considered "military" watches (including the Luminox Navy Seal) aren't necessarily used by military personnel. The truest "military" watch in terms of what is actually used in the field by military personnel is the G-Shock - pilots included. I was also told as much by a buddy who recently returned from deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan. So I began exploring G-Shock. I found that I could get Solar, Atomic, Solar - Atomic, a variety of colors and functions, the whole 9-yards. I didn't realize the available variety and the significant following. Wow! The higher end solar and atomics were a bit more than I wanted to spend (especially since it'll be my first G-Shock). So I finally decided upon the one that seems closest to the original G-Shock from the 80's (please correct me if I am wrong) but has the size and function (and indestructability) that I am looking for. The DW5600E-1V.

Of course this is just an image of the site I just ordered from but I am wondering if any of you own this one or have experience with it? Did I make a good call? Any input is welcome. I'll post pics of my real one when it arrives! BTW, it has the "Fox - Fire" illumination. Anyone know what that means? Thanks!

Welcome! Foxfire are JDM only, I believe, Japanese Domestic Market, and hard to find in the U.S.

Suggest a Gulfman with a Titanium back for those allergies

    5 Gulfman

Also available blue, red, orange, etc. and if the model number starts with GW, it is Solar and atomic.

Yup, Fox Fire can be pretty rare. I think the JDM watches switched from 'Fox Fire' in the mid 1990s to "Electro Luminescence".

The term Fox Fire refers to this stuff. It's the luminescent green glow that caught Casio's eye.

I see you have three GW-9110 models. I have a GW-9110-1JF on the way. I'm looking forward to it.
