Question Re: New Mudman has arrive

Size wise, (poet and didn't even know it) how does it compare to a 6900?

I wondered this, so when I had some time to kill, I amused myself with some calculations on my PDA. I've used the dimensions given by Casio and then calculated both the area and the volume (the thickness of some Gs makes them look bigger than they really are, I find).

Here are some of my watches, with the G-900 inserted in the table:

    model area volume
    DW-6900 2,660 43,358
    GW-500 2,446 40,968
    G-9000 2,408 39,244
    G-2310 2,436 38,002
    GL-7500 2,699 35,761
    G-5600 2,103 25,443
    G-8000 2,121 23,755

As you see, the G-9000 is appreciably smaller than the 6900, and most closely resembles the 2310. Smaller than a GW-500 too. I don't particularly go for huge watches, but I'd say the G-9000 is not quite big enough...

(ah, I see you can't really do tables with this software...)
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

    Hi,

I'm not sure if it's not big enough, but as you know size dosn't matter B-)

I'll wear her a few days and then I'll decide if she's keeper or if I'll sell her.

The feeling on the wrist is really good, infact I don't feel the Muddy at all.

I'm used to heavy automatic dive watches and appreciate this "new" feeling very much.

The dial is fantastic and puts a grin on my face when I look on it

Funny how "size doesn't matter" is never a sentence you'll hear from a guy with a small one... uppppsss... off topic...

Still no sign of new muddie in Wall Mart or in any department stores...

By the way, did you guys noticed that it appears to be less and less Gs avaliable in deparment stores including wall-mart? Maby we Canucks just don't get the whole "G / WaveCeptor / Solar powered" game and simply opt for 10 years batt, 20 CAD "who cares if it breaks next week at that price" Casios.

    Strange...

duke4c - Funny that you say that. My Walmart and JCPenny have mostly Waveceptor G-Shocks. It drives me crazy, because I'm not generally attracted to the looks of most waveceptors.

UBU - Wear that Mudman in good health. You'll need it if you try to push your Mudman to extremes. It is one tough watch, likely to give out long after you've tired from trying to kill it. It's an awesome design, with equally good execution. Maybe the best standard battery model G-Shock yet made. Maybe the best G-Shock yet made, regardless of battery type. The band design is definitely one of Casio's better efforts.

tribe125 - Excellent job in making that table. Your table more accurately refects my perception of various g-Shock sizes, than any number of comparison pictures could ever show. You hit the nail right square on the head.

    Re: New Mudman has arrive

The G-9000 numbers are a little bit taller and a little bit bolder than the numbers on the DW-6600, but slightly thinner overall. The seconds on the DW-6600 are a bit larger though, as are the numbers and letters on the top part of the display. One other thing I notice is that the numbers and letters on my G-9000 are darker than the same on my DW-6600. Overall, I think that both displays are quite legible in comparison to other current production G-Shocks.
