Newb Alert! What should be my first G-Shock?

Is there one g-shock that sort of defines the watch in terms of style/toughness/water resistance/and intervals between servicing?

    Here's what I have:
    http://www.bernhardtinstruments.com/binnacle.html
I want to compliment my Automatic diver with a beatable g-shock and am looking for some direction. I've never owned one. I've always had beat on ironmans and etc for swimming and workouts. But, but I always crack them or the crystals get so scratched they are painful to look at after a year.

Not sure what I'd need to spend, but I'm not drowning in cash.

    Any input appreciated.

Welcome aboard steve6387! Nice watches. For myself the 2300, 5600 series are some of the best G's around. Their are so many out there. Just look at some of the Pics on the forum and buy what you like. You can't go wrong with any G IMHO. Enjoy!

    Cheers!

ditto on G2300/2310, DW5600 (E for beating on cause its easily replaceable )

    also DW6600, DW6900

the battery ones usually will last you maybe at least 4-5 years if you are moderate with the EL

there are so many reasonably priced G-Shock. i am sure people here will have a lot of suggestion if you can be more specific on what you are looking at?

atomic? solar? 24hr countdown timer? world time? budget?

    Welcome Steve,

I agree with Motorheaduk a G-2300 series should meet your needs: solar, loads of functions, easy on the cash. Welcome to the G-shock world

Re: Newb Alert! What should be my first G-Shock?

Wow, quick replies. Thanks. OK I'll try to list some of my priorities:

    * I can't afford the latest and greatest simply because it's available. I'd rather pay for tried and true functionality.
    * Here's what I WOULD use: Stopwatch - maybe timezones - 24hr mode - 1 alarm - Some sort of backlight.
    * The date has to be prominent on the face. (w/o hitting a button).
    * Tough - The longer I have to go without opening the case the better. Or are all G's throwaways?
    * It's got to handle diving. I don't deep dive, but I am certified and I never worry about my Auto diver in the water... and it sees alot of water.
    * Midsize profile (for a G). I accept G's are big and that's kind of in style now anyway, but I don't want to be wearing a toaster size appliance on my wrist.

Things that I really don't need:
    * multi languages - 10+ alarms, calculators, MP3 players, Data functionality.
    * Not into funky colors. Maybe a blue or grey or green, but reds and yellow's are out.

    Thanks again,
    --Steve

Absolutely - 2300 / 2310 should be right up your street.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

    @ steve,

I also strongly recommend to get yourself a G-2300. in fact I like mine so much, that I recently bought two more of them, which I hope will be delivered 'til the end of the week. many say (especially in this forum) that the Frogman is the very best G-Shock ever made. that might be true but I don't like the assymetrical look of it. however, on the second place is undoubtly the G2300/2310, I think almost everyone will agree on this. it's one of this very rare things in life which can be considered perfect - at least from my point of view. I would go so far to say it is the best watch I ever had and probably ever will.

    Greetings Steve,
Just want to concour with members here. The g-2310 is a great g-shock
to welcome you to the brand.

Actually mine came form bhphoto, in New York.

Just a word of warning, for most, it starts with one g-shock...

G23X0 has already been mentioned many times

and i think DW5600E is good too (low profile, non-solar but the battery should last for a good couple of years)

you can also look at G5600/GW5600/GW056, these are the lower profile ones with the feature that you are looking for (for more).
