My 6 year old nephew has two DS's and does not treat them lightly. No cracks that I heard of yet. Could just be a bad batch of plastic that was mixed up?
The article says it's reported on 0.02% of the models, in other words 1 in 5000. This looks maybe not much, but that's 20 of every 100.000 sold, and there were sold quiet a lot. I also think it was a bad batch of plastc.
P.S. Can you add your time keeping test in the Post in the Articles section by Buzzbait, so we can reserve it for the future.
Thanks for this information, i get a look at the Ds of my daughter but no problem..

Interesting point b_anderson. It seem the norm for some personal electronic manufacturers to use this type of problematic plastic. I recall the issue with some Nokia phones.
More recently a friends I'pod nano had an issue with "cracking" screens as well.
Interesting. I wonder if it's the spec of plastic, or as VP has just stated, the user expecting too much. I guess the more people own something, the greater the variety of treatments the product will get, thereby the greater the potential for any complaints.
