    OT: 40th anniversary

    Voyager 1

Launch Date Mon, 05 Sept 1977 12:56:00 UTC

i bet there were a few Casio products used and worn.

The Voyagers: Reaching for the Stars

The twin Voyager spacecraft, which launched in 1977, are our ambassadors to the rest of the Milky Way, destined to continue orbiting the center of our galaxy for billions of years after they stop communicating with Earth. On Aug. 25, 2012, Voyager 1 became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, and Voyager 2 is expected to cross over in the next few years. At age 40, the Voyagers are the farthest and longest-operating spacecraft and still have plenty more to discover. This poster captures the spirit of exploration, the vastness of space and the wonder that has fueled this ambitious journey to the outer planets and beyond. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech

Space exploration is the one thing that can save us as humanity and the one thing that can unite us all regardless of our nationality, skin color or religion!
The space race era was IMO the best part of our history, and I am sad we lost our way since then, although SPACE X gives me hope

Saw a show on this over the weekend I think. Voyager will fly nearby another star in 40,000 years. I'm hoping we achieve that capability much sooner!

If you want, we can go deeper into the rabbit (worm) hole.

ive always thought this, imagine if we (human race) were like the alien races depicted in movies/sci fi shows, where the whole planet works together to achieve space travel or to fix their dying planet or whatever. we'd be centuries ahead of where we are now, but nope, instead we're praying to invisible sky ppl and killing ourselves and the planet >_<
im half hoping theres an alien invasion, it'll be the only thing that could unite everyone, but then again it could be another malaysian flight 370 where no country wanted to come forward with info which would reveal their tech or where their satellites were looking

we are the inter-galactic rest area. they stop, use the facilities, and occasionally their "kid" picks up a critter. "parents" see it later and turn around to put the "poor little lower life form" back where it belongs.

    alien abductions explained~
