    Paw 1300 Self Destructs!!

I have just returned from Florida.

Whilst there I was wearing my PAW 1300-3V and when I looked to check the time I found that the whole metal bezel had fallen off! I retraced my steps for a while but could not find it.

The watch had not been subject to any extreme conditions other than the usual Florida conditions ie shade temperatures of 90F+ and sun temperatures of well over a 100F with a very high humidity. The watch has never even been submerged in water never mind swimming in salt or chlorine treated pools.

It appears as if the glue just 'gave way' under the high temperature and high humidity.
Unfortunately my digital camera is out of action at the moment so that I cannot post a photo at the moment.

I received the watch new in the middle of July from the USA.

This is a real pity as this watch has been on my wrist far more than any other since I bought it and I think it is one of Casios finest ever.

Anyone else ever heard of anything like this and any suggestions as how to best to proceed now?

Incredible. And here I'd mistakenly thought that the metal bezel was actually a 'core' part of the watch. I'm nearing the end of a week of motorcycle touring with the PAW1300 strapped to the outside of my motorcycle jacket. I'll be very disappointed if the bezel disappears on me ! Hopefully, yours was one of those statistically improbable failures (they ought to fix it under warranty for sure !).

    hi mitch,

I'm very sorry to read about that, its really a shame and pretty uncommon for such a watch (I can't recall ever heard/read about something similar before )

just out of curiosity: what exactly is the "metal bezel" on yours has fallen off? I thought the PAW1300-3V - you got the green model don't you? - were made completely of resin, so I'm a bit confused....

    regards, holger

The case is mainly green resin but there is a metal bezel insert that fits around the buttons and also covers the top of the case.

I will have to contact Casio and see what they will do about the matter.

Finally here are pictures of the watch.

When I contacted Casio UK they didn't seem to have much of a clue. They said send the watch in but emphasised something like this was not covered by the warranty!

Well I suppose I don't have to worry about getting any scratches on the bezel!

Anyone know if there is a part available to fix it?

That's a bunch of bull if they don't consider that a warranty covered failure!

I'm sure if you ordered a new 'bezel' you'd get the resin and metal together, so you could just replace them together.

If you wanted to be very cautious...you could get the new part, carefully heat it to get the glue loose and gently pry out the metal bezel. Then you could use some clear epoxy (sparingly) and epoxy the metal bezel back to the resin. After a 24hr cure, heat/temperature and moisture/humidity shouldn't affect the epoxy.

    Hi Mitch,

Yours was not the only time this kind of glue failure in high heat/high humidity conditions was reported in the forum, but these are the first pics that show us exactly how it looks like, so thanks for that.

I'm with Topher, this should be covered by the warranty. In my opinion, the glued points are not enough to hold the bezel for a field/outdoors watch.

Oh wow! Man I am sorry to hear that happened!

I just got a PAW1300 on Saturday.... this freaks me out a bit!

I would push CASIO on this. This should definitely be covered under warranty as it is a quality control issue!
