    Power saving mode reversed display

I have a G5600 with reversed display. This morning I noticed it had gone into the Save mode (for the first time). The display was all black. It seems to me that the most logical way to save energy would be if the display - at least the digits - went all 'white'. it seems to me that when all black it would use even more energy, or am I wrong here?

I think due to the polarization filter it's all black without energy. The liquid chrystals are always invisible, but with a polarization filter the visible digits appear. There's two ways that filter can work:

    a) the digits appear black on white

    b) the digits appear white on black

without power the display will always appear like the area that does not display digits. Hope I didn't tell too much BS (if I did please correct me quickly)

    Have a nice day,

    Ad.

p.s. You have quite a collection of 5600s there I gues it's your favorite line

    Hi Hanzemannetje,

Just a little add to Ad's explenation, the LCD's on a negative and a normal display are the same (except for some icons). If you would turn the polarization filter 90 degrees, a sleeping display would turn from white to dark or the other way around.

I took these pictures of my Casio Pocket Calculator three and a half years ago. You can see the LCD itself doesn't change (he calculator is on!). Only the polarizer makes the digits visable.

    Cheers,

    Sjors

Thanks folks, basic LCD knowledge that I should have had...
Anyway, too bad my watch only goes into saving mode when battery is half-full, while most of the times it is completely full.

Re: Power saving mode reversed display

My G5600 goes into save mode when the battery is full, but only after a couple of days.

The Viper 5600 that I received today went into save mode when the battery was half-full, soon after it got dark (it was on the window-sill).

From memory, I think this is how the manual says they should behave.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...
