Pro Trek PRW 7000 and PRX 8000

    Hi

As per title, Im torn between 7000 and 8000. Prefer 7000 design but would like the 8000 quality.

So can you owners of 7000 speak up on how good (or bad) does the bezel hold up - do they scratch easily, what it looks like once scratched?

Cant find much reliable data online so would appreciate anyone owning one to post some feedback and possibly some photos too.

Now, how about the 8000? Do they really hold up that good because of different coating used? How easy it is to scratch the 8000?

Id really appreciate some feedback from owners of both and see how they look like after couple of years of use.

    Many thanks!

Re: Pro Trek PRW 7000 and PRX 8000

I've owned a few different PRW-7000 watches, and now own the PRX-8000T-7AJF. Sorry can't speak to durability as none of my watches received any rough treatment. But I can say that the DLC coating on my MR-G has held up VERY well, and the watch shows no scratches at all after 3 years of ownership, despite significant desk diving as well as a few hits by a seatbelt buckle. The bezel on my PRX-8000 has DLC coating.

Quick thoughts on the two watches. The 7000 has a nice design, but the little baro/tide graph hand will be mostly useless in the dark unless you have a flashlight. Also, for me, the watch has actually TOO many modes....and requires too many button presses. The 8000 has a simpler module, but you can more quickly get to what you need. Both the 7000 and 8000 are very nice looking. I love the looks of my PRX. It is somewhat large, but the relatively thin case makes it wearable. It also has blazing lume, AND a backlight. The titanium bracelet is a quality band, too.

If recent new models are any indication, I would not be surprised to see Casio bring out a Bluetooth-enabled Manaslu Protrek soon, and if recent Casio trends are any indication, it may also be a bit smaller in size than the PRX-8000.

Re: Pro Trek PRW 7000 and PRX 8000

I have both, and the PRX will hold up better because of the DLC coating, no doubt. The 7000 will pick up marks on the bezel fairly easily. I've used both about the same amount and the PRX is pristine whereas the 7000 is a bit nicked up. The nicks do not bother me, but it sounds like they would bother you.

The PRX has a more premium feel and comes out of the Yamagata PPL, like MRG and Oceanus. I think it's worth the extra bills, if you don't mind the bold styling.

Another vote for the 8000. The Bezel looks silver or black depending on how the light catches it...

Honestly, both are nearly equal in terms of build quality. And people willing to spend this much on a Pro Trek are not likely to wear them rough anyway. You can't go wrong with either. Buy the one that calls to you. Just keep in mind that the 8000 wears quite a bit larger than the 7000.

That 7000 looks like a toy compared to the 8000.

Cheers guys for all the input. Think the imperfections on the 7000 would really bug me being all black, and I need bracelet, cant do resin.

And that 8000 is just too sexy.

Now, am I right thinking there were 5 different models in the 8000 range (apart from limited 8163YT and 8000MT)
    - 8000T-7AJF

    - 8000T-7BJF

    - 8000YT-1JF

    That looks about right.

Before you blow all that cash, you might want to hold off for a bit. As T4P mentioned, there is no doubt going to be a PRX-9000 coming out soon. The 8000's been out for a while now.

Ironically, I paid twice as much for my 8000 than my 7000, but now the 7000 (which is limited) is worth more. Gotta love Casio collecting.

I didnt know about any future releases but will take your word for it. Cheers!

Is there a way to find out what are the future plans or is it just a feeling?

Re: Pro Trek PRW 7000 and PRX 8000

    I wear my PRW-7000 all the time. It's regularly beaten on and I have never babied it. A few points to show its durability before pics taken just now;
    • Lacrosse practice with my kid. The kids hit my hands (and watch) all the time with the stick when we play keep away.
    • 2 vacations last year to the beach in the salt water of the Atlantic. We also built quite a few sand castles so it went through lots of sand.
    • I cut down about 20 trees with this on. I wore it through the vibration of the chainsaw to the clean up.
    • Regular car wash dunking in soap.
    • Weekly trap and sporting clay shooting matches.

Overall, it has some scratches but most of the damage is on the band. The watch still keeps perfect time, syncs automatically or whenever I force it, and is running flawlessly. One thing that surprised me the most is how well the coating is holding up. The edges are still black and not worn out. The only spots that show through are the deep scratches as you can see below.

You've just thrown a spanner in the works, Ross. Cheers haha

I was 99% set for the 8000 but you just proved the 7000 holds up rather well. Ehh decisions, decisions.
