    Protrek advice

Looking to add a Protrek to my collection, but there just seems to be so many variances out there.

What I am looking for is an all black, or black/green with resin strap. Preferably solar if available and dual LCD (the one you can see the compass direction as a big needle)

So far I have found PRG-40-3VER or PAG40B-2V. But what is the difference?

    Cheers Protrek experts!

You could try the Digital and ABC forum for suggestions:

Some very knowledgable folks there. Queen6 has a good range of Protrek/Pathfinders.

Off the top of my head, the PRG-40 series arent tough solar or atomic.
The PRG-80 is tough solar only and has the duplex LCD (shows bearing as well as main digital display).

The new PRW-2000 series fits the bill but is on a metal bracelt only at the moment and looks pricey.

    +1

He also has very good knowledge on ABC watches in general, Casio or otherwise.

Try looking for a PRG-80L-3V, this has a much better feature set than the 40, solar, and the duplex display (needle), one of Casio`s best all time ABC`s.

I have 3 PRG-80`s and they have survived field work for years, my blue 80 is just coming up for its fifth anniversary and has literally been round the world, from deserts to the tropics to Mongolia and is still spot on.

As for all black there is always the "Extreme"

    Re: Protrek advice

I have a PRG-40 but I don't know the exact version. It's a nice watch, I bought it mainly for outdoor activities and heavy beating. Since it's one of the older models it lacks some of the techy features of the newer models, but for what I need it it's just great. The compass works great, the only thing that bothers me is the temperature sensor - for it to show the accurate time the watch needs to be taken of the wrist and one has to wait pretty much a lot in order for the watch to reach the environmental temperature.

Here's a shot of it on my fairly skinny wrist, although it's a large watch it feels very lightweight on my wrist.

Thanks you all for your information. I have just closed on a deal on Ebay for the PRG-40 (green). Looking forward to adding it to my collection.
