    PRW-3100

Where is the best place to purchase the PRW-3100? I sent my PRW-3000 back to Amazon due to it resetting 3 times in the 5 days that I had it.

I'm hoping since the 3100 has a different module, it won't have that issue.

    Thanks!
    Matt

It may depend on which version of the 3100 you are interested in, but check Amazon, Ebay, and especially Rakuten...

AFAIK, the 3100 is using a very similar module to the 3000. The biggest difference is the use of the STN display, which provides improved contrast and viewing angles. It's unlikely have anything to do with "resetting".

Now what do you mean by resetting 3 times in 5 days? Display just went completely off? You sure it's not just in sleep mode? Did watch settings reset to defaults too? Was the watch used? Directly from Amazon or 3rd party? Need more info from you. Even though you've already returned it, understanding these may help you better on your next purchase.

If your watch indeed reset everything to default, the culprit could just be the battery. May be it was sitting in the storage for a long time with the seller. May be it's a defective returned product. Those are my guesses.

Apparently it's a known issue with some 3414 modules. See post #8.

It was resetting to defaults as noted above. Didn't seem to matter if the battery was showing "H".

Huh, I see. Didn't pay much attention to that thread in the ABC forum until now. Was thinking it's something rare, but surprise that Casio actually admitted it's an issue with 3414... at least according to that member.

Well, if it's indeed static electricity / EMI related, being the smallest Protrek available, may be there isn't enough shielding for the module. The stainless steel bezel perhaps made it worse! Perhaps people with the earlier Aluminum bezel versions are better-off and have lesser chance to develop the same problem. Well, remember it was us the customers begging for steel, when the aluminum bezel's easily scratchable.

But I don't see why the 3100 would be better, if it happens to have the same module design besides STN display. It has also stainless steel bezel. Only time will tell. May be the PRG300 would be the best for shielding off EMI, since it has resin bezel. Most can live without atomic time sync, anyway.

I have the S3000 and have no issues and it hasn't been babied. It's the luck of the draw

^^. Thats kind of what Casio told me when I called. Some have the issue, some don't. Mine wasn't static or battery related.

    Re: PRW-3100

Update- Received my prw-3100 today. Says it last synced 7-7 (July of last year?) so I don't think it's reset since then (hoepfully). That said, the STN (negative) display is awesome! I was really disappointed with the negative display on the prw-3000. It was really hard to read. This one works great at almost any angle, and in low light. Huge difference.
