    Question about displays pos/neg/color

    Just curious but........

I understand having watched folks flip neg to positive displays & the other way
around... In those cases it is just the orientation of the film on the display

But I am curious about colored displays like the DW-6900CC line
For instance say a DW-6900cc-6 or any other colored display

So is this just a case of a colored polarized film being used?

If yes then how about displays that have multiple colors like this Stussy DW?

Again just curious & wondered what was being done.
    Anyone know?

    Thanks for any info

Its just a colored film in front of the LCDs back reflecting mirror.
If its multi-color then the pattern is printed on the film.

    Thank you d2mac

That kind of flew right over my head though

When you say a colored film "in front of the LCDs back reflecting mirror"
I am not sure what that means....
Is that installed in the same location as the polarizing film (but tinted a color) I have seen folks use to swap displays pos to neg?

Or are you speaking of a different location?

    Thanks again for any clarification

    Re: Question about displays pos/neg/color

    Hi,

I did manage some DIY lcd background, but nothing close came to the material used by Casio.
First you need to understand the layers of thats on the LCD.
    1.Top layer is polarizing film,
2.LCD itself, (This is where the place where have the round dial colored)
    3.Second polarizing film,
    4. Reflective film (This is the one that is multicolored depending on models or else its just plain silver color)

If you open up the layers LCD, the reflective film is the one which determine the color of the background.

As for the dial, as you remove the second polarizing filter, you will find the "painted"/"printed"/"screen printing" round dial printed on the back end of the display. it will be permanently remove if u use goof off/gone.

Here is an exmaple of DW6900CB-4DR LCD:
    FRom the Top Side.

From the Bottom Side, Notice the partially removed orange film.

    While this is my on-going Hush-hush project~ HAHA~

Thank you both for the great explanation & thank you Azfar
for taking the time to write that all out!

    Great explanation & quite detailed.
Nothing at all like I thought

I had just assumed it was all a single top layer colored or not

    Wow

I am going to read this a few more times.
Thanks again for the detailed response much appreciated
    & learned something here today
