    Question on World Time Setting

Iíve never bothered with the World Time function much, as Iím not much of a traveler, but would like to set my new Mudman correctly. The problem is that I canít figure the blasted thing out!!!!

The time setting screen asks me to set both the home time zone (in UTC) and the DST setting. According to the manual, the New York UTC differential is -5.0, so I set the home time zone to -5.0. It is currently daylight savings time in New York, so I set the DST to ON. Then I set the time correctly, so everything should be good.

Now is where the problem starts. I go to the World Time and set the World Time for New York also. It is currently daylight savings time, so I set the DST to ON. The problem is that the World Time function now shows the current time in New York as being 1 hour ahead of what it really is. London time works fine though, which does not use DST.

What exactly am I doing wrong? Should I not be using the DST setting from within the World Time function, if the Time Function has DST already turned on? I havenít found anything in the manual about this.

Set the time first - but set it as if it wasn't daylight saving time, i.e. 1 hour behind. Then turn DST on, and it will show the correct time.

Re: Question on World Time Setting

On the original Time Setting mode set up NYC without the Daylight Savings (As Zone 5 from GMT). Once you have that set up, then set the Daylight Savings to ON. Now it should reflect the actual real time.

If you don't set up your home Zone correctly, the World Time mode will be off.

London is currently on Daylight Savings, so if you don't have DST toggled on it would reflect GMT time and not current London time.

Hey, I think we said the same thing at precisely the same time...

Okay. I get it. The DST setting in the Timekeeping function automatically adjusts the Home Time Zone setting by -1 UTC. That makes sense.

And I think it would be very nice if the "cities" in the world time list would include UTC/GMT..just a detail.

Re: Question on World Time Setting

Okay. So now I have a problem with my G-2300. The Timekeeping function has a simple setting for the time and DST, without the home time setting. So I set the time one hour off initally, and then go back in and turn on DST for New York. The time is now correct now for New York.

Then I go to the World Time function and set the World Time to display the time for New York. I turn on the DST for New York, and the time is off by one hour.......

What did I do wrong now? Is world time really this confusing?

Re: Question on World Time Setting

Nevermind. I get it. I have to set the actual time in World Time mode, on the G-2300. It is not automatic, as it is on the Mudman.

The G-2300 does happen to show the UTC offset for each city.
