Rangeman, from happy camper to done with it in two minutes :-)

Finally bit the bullet and bought a 9400 Rangeman. Couldn't wait for it to arrive and try it on. I already have 9 other G-Shocks but all of a lower caliber (and old) so it was nice to have something new.

Opening the package, disappointment one: highly damaged outer box. Okay, no biggie for some but I like to keep everything as good as new so that was blow number one.

Well okay, open the tin. Yeah that indeed looks (and feels!) nice. Different resin than most of my other watches, feels more premium. Playing around a bit, decided to let the atomic time to do it's thing.

And yeah, there it was. Disappointment number two, but this time major. Never seen something like this before, looks like glue or paint or something, under the glass, left of the main time display.

Naturally asked for an RMA. Now let's see how matters proceed. Would rather have the camouflage version now, after seeing this Riseman in person, but first wait for this issue to solve.

All in all not the greatest start of the Riseman challenge

Without a doubt, send it back right away. I've never seen anything like that on a Rangeman before.

Anyhow, don't give up on this model. It's a great watch! Get another Rangeman right away. Whether black, or green camo, or Desert camo, or another color scheme, you can't go wrong.

Get a replacement before you write the watch off. Don't let your disappointment with one that is clearly damaged put you off of the watch entirely.

A man wearing a watch, outside of purely social functions (where, strictly speaking, a watch is not supposed to be worn), makes it clear to everyone in his purview that they are in the presence of a man who considers his time something of value, not something to be wasted.

Bad specimen somehow leeched through. Send it back. The next one will be fine.

Just for the record guys... Not disappointed in the watch itself! Only to see that something like this is being shipped annoys me. Will for sure get another Riseman!

Contemplating about the GG-1000 (with positive display, really not a fan on negative) as well, although I would really like to have atomic versions only from now on but the GWG is wayyy beyond my budget.

It looks like it's damage to the LCD itself, like the two layers of glass slightly separated on the edge. It's just enough to cause the liquid crystal to lose its orientation. I wonder if its the damage to the packaging that caused this. Seems like it was subjected to a lot of stress. Even though there's the outer box and tin with the sponge to cushion the watch, sometimes strange things happen once the product leaves a factory. It's a great watch so don't let this experience cloud your judgement of the watch itself.

Wait a while and make the investment in the GWG. I say this for several reasons, but the illumination issue (or lack of same for the LCD) was a critical matter.

I'm sure it's a typo, just be sure you order a RANGEMAN and not Riseman.
