Rangeman mod: black screws, and PacParts info

There was a thread a while back where Babola modded his Rangeman to have black screws. He did this by taking them to a metal shop and having them coated. I wanted to do the same thing, but the quote I got from a local metal shop was a lot more than I wanted to pay.

Pacparts had a list of parts for the GW-9430EJ (yellow) rangeman, which has black screws. Back in December I ordered the black buttons from the GW-9430EJ, and I also ordered four of their most expensive screw, which had no description or photo but was $6. I figured that had to be the bezel screw, because all the other screws had photos.

Sadly, I got a message a few days later that the buttons were officially "discontinued" parts. The screws order went through, but it took a long time for them to arrive. Finally today, I got my four black screws. At around $25 for all four, this is definitely not a cheap mod despite how minor it actually is. But I think it greatly improves the look of the watch. I never liked those silver screws.

Excellent mod. So small, yet so powerful - it's insane how such a little detail can change a whole appearance.

    cheers

Nice and simple mod, but makes a big difference. Like it.

I think some high quality matte black metal paint could be used to nearly the same effect. Just try to spraycoat it very lightly, if you mess up, no big deal, just use sandpaper and try again.

Looks great! I have tons of watch parts I'd like to get powdercoated/blasted/whatever-you-call-it. Most of the places around me don't want to tackle anything small like watch parts/screws.
