    Receiving item shipped from Portugel...question...

Hopefully somebody on here can help me out with this one...

I've ordered a watch from Portugel and was just given my tracking information. I've paid for the watch, including shipping charges. The seller just emailed me the tracking info but also mentioned that a pro-forma invoice of 70 Euro would be sent with it. I'm not familar with a pro-forma invoice, but from my understanding, it's more of a quote than an actual invoice or bill. Is this just used to declare the value for customs, or will I be expected to pay an additional 70 Euro ($100.77USD) upon receipt of my package??

Sounds like a copy of your transaction to me - more like a receipt.

How much was your watch? If more than €70, he may be doing you a favour by understating the amount.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

That's what I'm thinking. That's only about half what I paid. I'm hoping it's to help speed it through customs, perhaps?

Since you live in US I'm guessing you have to pay customs fee from importing an item outside of US. Don't know what the taxes for items are in Texas but in sweden they're 25% So if he declared a low value you're basicly saving money:D. You should consider yourself lucky that he did that for you^^! I usually have to ask for it

As a former forwarding agent... a proforma invoice is just for the customs clearance. Based on the value mentioned on the proforma invoice the customs authorities will calculate the customs fee you will have to pay. In some cases (the value stated on the proforma invoice is obviously way to low, e.g. 50 USD for a iPhone ;) the customs authorities will ask you for the regular invoice you got from the seller. In your case I think the proforma invoice will work for customs clearance.

thanks for the info! It's being shipped via DHL. I'm assuming that if I'm not home they will leave it at my post office. If that's the case, will I have to pay customs duties when I pick it up at the PO? If I am home, will the DHL delivery man try to collect the custome fee from me?
