    Recommend g-shock for 16yo

Could you please recommend a g-shock for my son?

He is 16 and can wear a 40mm watch. Will be learning to scuba-dive next week. Army cadets - camps a lot. Military looking one would be great - plans a career in army air corps although I would expect him to change out the watch by then.

Normal time functions + water resistant for diving will do.

    <$100.

    Thanks,
    Ian

I suggest a classic. Like the 5600, 6600 or my preference, the 6900.

When I first saw the title I was thinking GA-100 or Zombie Slayer 6900. But if he is military minded, he would probably prefer a more plain watch.

There is my choice... classic 6900!

I agree with Jeff's 3 choices. Either one would do the job. My choice would be the 5600 though. :)
    Wear what you like.

Yup, Jeff and Bruce have it right.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

Yeah a 6900 is classic and cool.
A G-9000 Muddie comes in some military colors. There's a green camo one as well as an all green one.
I personally like the all black MS. And they're tough. Around $100 or less.
See which one he likes and try one on if possible. The 6900 is bigger than the muddie and 5600.

DW-5600MS - looks cool and is fairly cheap and easy to get (around 70US$):

40mm will get pretty difficult with a g-shock, since most of them are significant larger. however, for a military looking model, nothing beats the olive-green G-7900:

mine on a 6.9 inch wrist:

it's big and grippy buttons, make it superior to any other g-shock i'm aware of, especially with gloves worn. the watch is quite large, so it might not fit the criteria. the next best thing that comes to my mind is the G-7700:

the G-7700 is a lot smaller than the G-7900, but still has easy and very good to operate buttons. and it has one of the most advanced modules to date.

DW6900 or A Mudman, can't go wrong with either one :)

G-5600A-3 or GW-M5600A-3 might also be an option (don't know if it's still possible to get the GW-M5600A-3 for below 100 bucks however):
They look about the same but the GW is atomic while the G isn't:

Got my 16yr old this for xmas...he loves it.
The touch of orange adds a nice bit of colour but it isn't too flashy.
Not a diving watch but I must admit I love it!
