    Red DW5600 arrived today, but....

    ... lasted about 5 minutes! :-S

noticed it was a bit gruby round the display

    and round the back

so gave it a clean in some warm water, using an old soft toothbrush as I regularly do with many other watches.

5 minutes later the display went down. I feared the worst and opened up the caseback, and found to my horror that the seal was worn and brittle, and a slight amount of water got into the case back. I dried it as best I could and put it back together but to no avail, it did not power up.

Needless to say I'm a bit gutted.

I phoned casio UK, and they said they would take a look at it. With any luck it just needs a new battery and seal!

Will post an update, and better pictures, when she returns from the dead!

She will be in good hands. I will wish her a speedy recovery.

    Hi Crimbo,

I hope they can revive the module. It has a very nice sharp "G" in the EL backlight. In the worst case you need a new module.

    Cheers,

    Hi Crims:

    Congrats on the new addition

That is a great model with it's matching yellow:gold

The signs point towards a fading battery.

Before leaving Japan, I had around 60 G's that went back to CASIO displaying the same sign. Once the battery loses energy, the backlight will not operate, and if you try, the digits will fade away, and should return after a few seconds until the battery is completely dead.

She'll be right as we say over Oz way once the new battery has been put in

The signs point more towards water getting into the watch, not the battery dying. Hopefully it's as simple as a battery change and not a ruined module.
