Question Riseman GW 9200 MODE Button Press Does not Register 90% (or more) of the Time

I got my Riseman (GW-9200-1) yesterday. Bought it online from a reputed store overseas.

From less than half a day of usage I have noticed that the MODE button has issues registering the button press. It's not that it's hard to press. It's just that most of the times it does not register the button press.

Last evening, for example, I was stuck in stopwatch mode. Unable to get out of the mode for about 15 minutes until the button press registered in those 5 - 10% of times. After that I checked the baro/thermo readings and was unable to get out of that mode for about 15-20 minutes. Then while switching the hourly time signal ON, I was stuck in that mode for another 15-20 minutes. During this time I was constantly pressing the mode button in an attempt to get back to timekeeping mode.

All this makes it very difficult to use the functions. Also, using the mode button while wearing the watch on your wrist is out of question.

Plus this morning I woke up with a sore thumb and a slightly sore index finger. (Not that sore finger/thumb are a problem but the watch isn't very usable like this)

I have seen and used this model in person (G-9200, though; not the atomic one) and I did not notice this phenomenon of MODE button not registering. I have seen Mudmen (9000s) and I agree that Mudman buttons are hard to press... but this MODE button on Riseman is a different story altogether.

May I please ask fellow members if they have ever had any such issues with their GW-9200s? Do you think this watch may be defective? (Well it was well packed and it's a G-Shock after all; I seriously doubt that something happened to it during shipping.)

Also, what is my recourse in such a scenario? Send the watch back and get a replacement? Or will the local Casio honour the warranty on this online (overseas) purchase and issue a replacement or at least repair the button?

    For troubleshooting purposes:
    * The battery charge indicator is on H (High).
    * Also, the watch wasn't busy performing any other operations (e.g. while it was in stopwatch mode and while it was in SIG mode).
    * The other three buttons (or four if count the Alti button too) work fine and register the button press with a slight push of the button.

I would really appreciate some inputs on this.

Sorry to say, but I think the watch is faulty. The quickest and easiest thing to do is to report all this to the seller. If you go elsewhere at this stage, you might end up with a repair, but no chance of a replacement.

Talk to the seller about the problem, which you have confirmed is real and not a RTFM issue. See what he says first. If that is unsatisfactory, do come back here for suggestions.

P.S. A faulty G out of the box is really, really rare. Do have confidence in accepting a new replacement.
The Search function on vBulletin forums isn't very smart. If you want to search for a complete string in the G-Shock forum, or for posts which include multiple words, use Google, and enter site:forums.watchuseek.com/f17 into the search box. Then use normal google syntax after that to enter your search.

I agree with Maine, the Riseman's buttons are intentionally recessed for better protection against shocks but they are very responsive once you can reach them, I never missed a single press from the day I own my Riseman, it seems like yours has a faulty button.

This is off topic and applies in no way to the OP , but I love the RTFM acronym
To get back on subject however, as others have said, it seems that the watch is one of those very rare ones that's faulty.
Best to contact the seller and see what he/she will do next.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

My riseman cannot tell world time in time keeping due to the top right button not registering properly. The World time will show for a brief second during the initial press of the button, but goes back to date soon after. I wear the watch in the shower, press buttons under water. Works great otherwise!

The seller was polite and understanding enough in his response. Offered to replace the watch if I send this one back to him. I've posted the watch back today. Hoping to get a good one back.

That's a good news, I'm sure he will make sure your watch is flawless before shipping this time ;)

    Ha ha! Hope so.

He's been nice. I think I just got unlucky and got one with the faulty button.
