    Screwback square from 2001

The DW5000-1JF. I've read in a couple places that it sold out in 70-72 hours or something, I don't know how anyone knows that? There weren't a lot of screwback square choices in 2001. There was the DW-1983 from 1993, and still some DW5600C's up until 1997 or so, I guess there was pent up demand for another screwback square. Besides the mygshock wiki and a couple posts here and there though, haven't found many posts or reviews. Does anyone know where the "sold out in 70 hours" came from or have any other informatiuon about this model, such as how many they made, or marketing materials of any kind? I might have to try to find an old catalog just to get information. Thx!

It is one of my favourite G-Shocks, I think it is one of the few, if not only, DW-5000 re-releases that do not indicate that fact on the watch. The only differentiation that I know of is the change from 200M to 20BAR on the face, which is due to the JDM market. I modded it to replace the original LCD with one from a DW-5030, as well as a set of GW-5000 clothes).

No idea about particulars upon release, it was way before my time with watches.

Idkfa, what do you mean by "it is one of the few, if not only, DW-5000 re-releases that do not indicate that fact on the watch"? Do you mean no letters after the DW-5000 on the caseback?

Do you still recall where you read that statement, "sold out in 70 hours"? Probably we can communicate with the author regarding the said statement. He/she might have some evidence about it.

I can't remember, but when I Google "gshock dw5000 sold out in 70 hours" one hit that mentions that is 50-gs. Maybe Sjors has the info!

Unlike almost every other DW-5000 re-release, including the DW-1983 and all the anniversary models, there is no "Team Tough", special caseback, or other anniversary markings. It can be considered a new DW-5000 model, albeit with the revised steel case specification that it shares with the other anniversary editions and the GW-5000. This is helpful as it uses commonly available resin.

To me, it is the perfect throwback to the original.

    Re: Screwback square from 2001

Gotcha. Along with the DW5000 they released 2 other screwbacks that fit the criteria of no "team tough", no special markings, and just have DW5000 on the caseback. The DW5000D and DW5000BL, then a couple years later there was the DW5000ML. Of course none of these looks like the original :) After this I think all other screwbacks had the full model number on the caseback like the DW5000SL, DW5000ST, and DW5000SP, and anniversary designs on the caseback. Love all of them!

For being sold out in 70 hrs it's quite easy to find. I really like mine.

I've found people making the statement and such, but was there a press release or something from Casio about it? Or do people just know this because they remember buying it and remember? I just find it interesting that there is this tidbit of info on this particular model, especially considering it was so long ago, and I don't recall seeing statements like that on any other G.
