Smile Singaporean Designs A Blinky G-Shock!

Just read this article in our local Singapore tabloid called Today. It wasn't advertised so I didn't know Casio was celebrating their 25th Anniversary here. Would have loved to gone and listened to the Casio Engineer Kikuo. Unfortunately, I think the the watch desgined by the local Singapore designer isn't that nice. Have a read, and sorry if it's a bit too long

BTW, the term "Shiok" mentioned in the last paragraph as "G-Shiok" is a local slang word here and is Originally a Malay exclamation, but now a universal Singaporean expression denoting extreme pleasure.

The Malay language (ISO 639-1 code: MS)[1][2] is an Austronesian language spoken by the Malay people and people of other ethnic groups who reside in the Malay Peninsula, southern Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, central eastern Sumatra, the Riau islands and parts of the coast of Borneo.

Here's a better pic of the watch. There seems to be what looks like to me Arabic script on the band... nice actually except for the ring of stars.

I like the Arabic script but the stars on the bezel don't work for me.

Thanks for the scan and posting this up, GameBoy!

The reporter that covered the article needs serious training on the background of G-Shocks.

    1. 10m shock resistance?
    2. 100m water resistance?
    3. 10-year battery?

Casual punters might think the above 3 points apply to all G's, particularly the battery duration and WR......

*The designer of this limited G-Shock has a nice Misfits shirt, though.....

    Pat,

IMHO, the reporter is right about the three points, as that was the G-Shock designers' initial intention when they designed the Gs. It's known as the Triple Ten criteria. 10m shock resist, 10 bar water resist & 10 years battery life.

Of course, they easily exceeded the first two criteria, namely shock resist & water resist. However, with the introduction EL back light, the 3rd criteria could no longer be met, that's at least until the introduction of Tough Solar.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers,
    MountainMike
