Suspect ebay listing... wide temp 5100

I found this on ebay, and was excited to watch (and possibly participate) in the bidding. Then I looked closer.

The seller says it is a 5100, but if you look at the caseback it has a 5600 caseback. The seller says the module is 691, but that doesn't make sense. It should have a 491 module, right?

So what this looks to be is a franken-G made of components of a 5100 and a 5600. Can anyone confirm this?

It looks real to me. I noticed that the same seller or another seller from Brazil either has or had a DW5000 for sale with the wrong glass crystal on it. The crystal looks like a fake on the DW5000. As for this DW5100, I think that it's real. I noticed that there are no serial numbers on the screw back. I thought that the early 1983 DW5000, DW5100 and DW5200 all had serial numbers on the screw back. Maybe some others here can verify this.

But how can it be a Wide Temp if it has a 691 module?

It's franken, and for all we know the face plate might be the only 5100 part in the whole watch.

Maybe the watch was assembled from leftovers? Just imagine the selelr to be a "usual" watch wearer. He once had a 5100 and the watch needed service, the caseback was ruined while screwed in wrong and so the watch got an (moer easily available) 5600 screwback. Now he doesn´t wear the watch any longer and just (as many do) types off what is writton on the watch...

Butr maybe he is trying to sell a 5600 with a 5100 glass as a 5100 - i won´t judge, just suggest he might be honest as he does not know better.

100% Franken.....the correct module is the 491.This is a 5600 with REM module so an incorrect discription of item.

    Indeed.

Some of you may remember the famous 7 WW-5100C-1 NOS Crystals, surely the parts-find-of-the-decade, sold by a Brazilian seller last year. This watch most likely has one of those crystals on it. I believe another vintage collector on the forum owns 2 of these crystals, and I also own one (with which I've made my own franken WW-5100 with a DW-5200 240 module and caseback and a 491 LCD, so a slightly more faithful effort than the one on eBay!)

If the price doesn't go too high this watch would still be worth a pop if only because the case with the crystal is easily worth $200+ and it can be used to restore a genuine but beaten up WW-5100 when one turns up for sale.

Sold for $526 shipped. I sure hope the buyer knows they are getting a DW-5600C with a wide temp crystal. The screws are correct, but the caseback and module are pure 5600. I would have guessed this would go for around $250.
