True or False?: "only solar powered g-shock's have full-auto-el"

In another thread someone here said, "...only solar powered g-shock's have full-auto-el..."

Is that correct? If so, that really narrows the field of Gs for me, since I really like the full auto EL feature.

    Thanks,
    - Tim

    True.

Full Auto EL is the term (if only the term used here) to describe the EL activation by tilt sensor only in low light. The watch would use the solar panels to determine if it was in low light or not- e.g. if the tilt sensor should enable the back light.

My non atomic g9000ms has a six hour auto shut off for the EL. Pretty handy.

Doh! Of course, that makes sense.

Are there any "non-full" auto EL G-shocks that are not solar. In other words, Gs that light up the back plane when lifted to a viewing position, regardless of whether the surroundings are darkened?

    Thanks,
    - Tim

How can you tell? In bright light you cannot see the EL activation and therefore cannot confirm whether it activated or not.

    There's some with this feature.

Have you tried Auto-EL in the real world?

Personally, I find it annoying sometimes, like when driving a car at night, or at social events, and then my watch suddenly call for attention... It can be shut off, of course, but personally, I'm not mad about my watch running down the battery without a reason. Because it turns on a lot of times, where I dont need it... So most of the times, I shut auto-EL of. There's scenarios where I like it, though.

On a solar, which only lights up in the dark - the sensor seems to be very conservative. The watch often lights up, when there's still enough ambient light to read without the EL.

Well, this is just me, and what matters, is what you need/like. I just want to say, that this feature can be overrated

    Good luck with it

right. in my opinion this "shut-down-el-after-six-hours" circuit makes much more sense, than the "full-auto-el" circuit.

Fairly new to G's. Just six months into it and I have an AWG, 2 mudman, a GW6900 and a Riseman on the way. All solar atomic except for the 9000ms. The solar/atomic is very cool and I love it but the auto el for me was about a two day phase. Turns on while driving, sitting at my desk under the lights and other times when you least expect it. Very cool when you need it but for me to leave it off and just push the button works out better.

Yup there are quite a few:

    G-9000 series Mudman

    G-9100 series Gulfman

    GLX-5600/5500 series

    GLS-5600/5500 series

    G-7700 series

    G-7900 series

and maybe some others I can't remember

those watch have the "auto-el" circuit but not the "full-auto-el" circuit.

"full-auto-el" is only available for solar watches (but not for all), it needs a light sensor which detects the ambient light to decide whether it's dark enough to activate auto-el or not. however, as i wrote above - in my opinion the six hours cirqiut on non-solar makes much more sense, but this is certainly open to debatte

    cheers
