Twin sensor and thermometer: G-SHOCK GA 1000-4A

The horology has been very ‘haute’ all week due to SIHH 2014; all openworked tourbillons, skeletonised movements, and fancy rattrapantes. Sometimes it’s nice to talk about a watch you can actually afford, and which isn’t limited to just ten pieces. We’re talking of course, about G-SHOCK.

This new and eye catching GA 1000-4A model is the first in the G-Aviation lineup to be equipped with Twin Sensor capabilities, creating a watch that is matched to the needs of the modern aviator in terms of function and appearance. By pressing the button at the 9 o'clock position in any mode it immediately switches to Digital Compass Mode, and the button at the 8 o'clock position returns the watch to the mode it was in before Digital Compass Mode.

Continual direction readings can be taken for 20 seconds, during which the second hand points to north, a literal direction indicator is displayed in the upper display, and a direction angle value is displayed in the lower display. Bearing Memory lets you temporarily store and display a direction reading so you can use it as a reference as you take subsequent digital compass readings.

Other features include temperature measurement, large numerals, and chunky hands for easy reading. The second hand and minute markers are coated and react with the black light illumination of the watch for illuminated in the dark. The watch comes on an unmissable orange resin bad contrasting beautifully with the black orange face. And all for just $250. This G-SHOCK may never get invited to SIHH, but it will get you home.

The GA-1000 is a really eye-catching watch and the features are also quite cool.
I love orange G-shocks but as far as this model i also like the grey/yellow version, the GA-1000-8A

This one has caught my eye as well, definetly on my short list!

Just a little tougher for me to get as I don't think it's a USDM offering.
When was it ever a question of need?

Copy paste of July/August 2013 press release.. If you had to actually buy it and do a review it would have been cool.

The orange watch looks basically cool. Do they make one that doesn't do so much? Perhaps one that just tells time?

The orange is a US release if you are looking.

A friend picked mine up at the SoHo store, and I see them at Macy's all the time.

I just got a similar one in Tokyo. Not sure which year it is though.
