U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's Digital Watch

This is a news photo of U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson (on the left) testifying before the U.S. Congress yesterday. Paulson comes from one of the major Wall Street firms and is undoubtedly a multi-millionaire. (In keeping with the rules and spirit of this forum, I will make no comment, one way or the other, about Mr. Paulson's proposals or the Administration he works for.)

Paulson appears to be wearing a digital watch with his nice business suit. It is hard to make out, but it looked to me like it might be a Timex. Anyone have any ideas? Do you like business suit/sporty watch combination as done by Paulson? (I know we've had threads on this general topic before).

Yes, it is a subtle way to show the rebel side.

Maybe he just dropped into Congress from the golf course...
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

Hmm.. Maybe the whole "man of action" thing, i.e., the "I have to wear a suit, but I'm an active and unpretentious guy so I sport a Timex Ironman" is wearing a bit thin?

Again, no comment on old Henry (who even after the economic meltdown will likely be able to afford fancier pieces), but I kind of like the digital with suit look!

He had to sell off his high-end watches; it's where the money to buy up the banks is coming from. Ben S. Bernlake is helping out too; his cufflinks are for sale on eBay

On the one hand, I personally don't think that specific digital watch is a good combination with business attire.

On the other hand, however, if I were the treasury secretary of a nation with a $13 trillion economy and a $500 billion defense budget (equal to the entire rest of the world combined) then I don't think that I would give a rat's ass about the opinions of watch nerds.

Oh you can be quite assured he doesn't give a rat's ass about our opinions.

Maybe it was given to him as a gift from a family member and he just enjoys wearing it for that reason alone? Who knows?

    .

I will say this, I have seen a ton of people who work for the US Government wearing digital watches while appearing in front of a camera. Just turn on C-Span. You can't miss 'em!
