    Vintage DW-5600C-9V Before and After...

    Hi,

I got this last night. Its a vintage DW-5600C-9V with gold detailing from 1987. Its hard to believe this watch is now 20 years old...Other than a couple of faint scratches on the crystal, its in near mint condition

I was itching to start on it straight away as I already had a new belt and bezel to go on. I gave it a good clean then very careful started to remove the four infamous screws... Three came out quite easily but one wouldn't move (sound familiar). I'm sure some of you know this already but sometimes it helps if you tighten rather than unscrew first. I did this a couple of times and out it came.
No broken screws and no need for the hair dryer!!!

All that was needed then was a bit of metal polish on the case back and it came up looking like new again.
Fitting the belt and bezel was simple and as you can see from the photos, it looks great

I've got lots of cool limited editions that I'm just too scared to wear... This one is different. Its survived 20 years with only a few scratches so its going to see lots of wrist time with me.
Its not going to live in a box

    Enjoy the pics.

    Steve

Thumbs Up Re: Vintage DW-5600C-9V Before and After...

    Great job Steve !

I'm glad you didn't break a screw ; the only one of my vintages with a broken screw is this model . I glued it back in

Yours looks FAB, especially the caseback, barely a mark.

    Thanks kpatt,

I did my homework and checked past posts before I attempted to remove the screws.
The size of the screw is very deceiving. The part of the screw outside the case looks quite thick but the threaded part is tiny.
I can now see how easy it is break one

I must congratulate you on your fantastic site. Like Sjors site, its a great resource and very useful when checking out the various models. Thanks

I was really pleased with the case-back. I've seen a few that don't have the machining marks anymore and are polished to a mirror finish. I guess they must have been scratched up quite badly...

    Thanks casiophile,

I really like the fact that it has a scew on case-back and steel body.
It feels like a really solid watch

    Great job and congrats!

I have a question: is there a newish G-Shock that looks similar to the original with the metal case? I like it too

Hi Paula, yes there have been various re-issues based on the all metal case, screwback DW-5xxx series. They pop up fairly regularly on auction sites.
The last one was released a couple of years ago from memory but they are floating around.
They tend to be a bit dearer than your average DW-5600 but are worth it, in my opinion.

    cheers,

Hi casiophile, are you referring to the angle of the bezelling on the caseback or the unusual brushed finish ?

    Thanks Paula,

Casio released a 20th Anniversary model five years ago. Its the DW-5000-1JF.
I think the Rising White model released back in September also has one too.
