    watch bands

How many quality years can you expect to get out of a resin band(like a g-shock)?

And also can a resin band in a g shock be replaced?

    Thanks!

Yes the g-shock resin can be replaced. The longest I have gone is about 5 years. I changed them NOT because they were worn out, but because after awhile I find the rubber goes from a nice dull matte finish to a shiny glossy finish from it rubbing on everything and I much prefer the dull matte black.

I wear mine - 2 regularly - for everything from yard work, working on/in/under the vehicle, doing patio stones, building decks, roofing, putting in new sod, vacationing/swimming in the ocean. So you name it, I do it and they hold up just fine.

DW-5600c bought new in 1987 and still on original band. So there are many variables.

Many variables indeed...The strap on my 12yo son's Rangeman just broke after 2&1/2 years, and I'd say he's a fairly extreme example. He wears the thing pretty much 24/7 and puts it through hell. Salt water, sunscreen, dirt, sweat, mud, hours of sun, you name it. He also showered with it daily (ok maybe not daily ). It only just broke where the buckle meets the strap when he took it off to change the time zone recently. I replaced it for him, but I swapped his old keeper onto the new strap, to preserve its well earned battle scars

here's an old picture of the keeper after just 6 months of use

As log as you do not bend the strap back over itself when removing the watch from your wrist, it should last years*.

Years, may mean different time frames for different people. As KnL stated, his son is hard on watches. Members who just wear the watch to work and don't abuse it may go a lot longer than that.

I've bought a strap/bezel package for each Watch I purchased. I know they will be needed down the line, and they may not be available then. FinestTime out of Israel on eBay is great for this.

Have you a photo of the original strap where it actually broke?

Whilst on this topic, could you replace the resin band with a metal one if you wanted?
