I used to own one but gave it to a friend..

it has lots of features that usually available in g-shock instead of ordinary casio line.

it has mineral glass, protected face, true stainless bezel, 200m WR, 16mm stap lug so it compatible with some g-shock strap.
got worldtime, with accesable alternate time on home screen.. home time always show in every mode because it got its own analog dial (pretty hard to see since its very2 small though). usual alarm, stopwatch and countdown timer. it use LED (amber) insted EL though.

overall its a great solid affordable casio and i like it. its a perfect beater.

some cons from me is the shadow from the rim of the analog display shadowing the digits in some angle, make it hard to differ 1 or 7 and so on on the minutes digit.
also mine lost -7/month. not that i complain but i wish it got trimmer screw so i can adjust the accuracy like my g-shock.

if you want a casio line that also share some toughness of g-shock, i would recomend DW-290.
its afforable.. share all the features and function as dw-5600 (same module and layout) 200m WR, mineral crystall, EL and easy to access buttons... no gimmic, just standard essential features..
not everyone could like the look, but for me its a classic thats still available with afforable price.

The AE-2000 most different feature is the extended 4 world time mode.
The other features are rather Casio standard like Stopwatch or Countdown Timer.

As already mentioned, the housing is very sturdy.
The feature set you will find almost identical in the GD-100 G-Shock.

and of course a pic of my AE-2000:
