Question What color for the next mod job? - 8200 series Frog

Alright guys... Fresh off getting a DW-8201WC-9T Frogman off ebay (stock pic shown below) that is nicely yellowed and in need of a dye job, what color do you guys think would look good for dyeing this jelly... Offhand I'm thinking purple which would go awesome with the gold (a "royal purple frogman II" similar to sl8763's masterpiece).

    (image from mygshock.com thanks Riley!)

This is in no way a binding poll (since I'm the one who's going to wear it after all ), but I'm interested to hear some suggestions. I included a few color options in the poll that I think would go ok with the gold hardware and bezel. I'd prefer to do black as a last option if I totally screw it up seeing as how I have a ton of black G's already.

    So let's hear it folks!

I think a dark blue would be cool considering the gold accents and light blue dial.

This is a good point and one of the things that bothered me a little about dyeing it purple... Simon's turned out so well in part because of the gold display which tied everything together... I'll have to see if it really looks light blue in person, or if it's just something with the stock pic.

I used the process of elimination:

    * Can't use Blue then it would look close to U of M, I don't think you would want that by looking at your avatar!

    * Purple - would look awesome but already done as you referenced no need for an homage

    * Black - been there, done that

*Green - as long as it's not Kermit green, then you're avoiding the homage look, plus I think would look great as a compliment to the gold

good luck and post pics when finished!

Yeah, I was thinking more Notre Dame than UM since it was gold, but yeah that is an issue. I actually already have a blue/yellow 2310 that I think I avoid for that very issue.

I will post pics of the final product for sure! Thanks for the suggestions!

I'd choose blue out of those color options you listed

However I would go 'deepest' blue you can find, possibly go with standard RIT navy or even denim blue then re-dye again as required until the deep blue color match is achieved. My personal choice would be to dye it in the way the jelly transparency is almost gone, and solid color is achieved.

The denim blue will give it that blue indigo effect I believe will fit very nicely the golden accents and bezel, as well as light blue LCD. Match it up with darker or mustard yellow bezel text, or even gold, and the result should be awesome

Black with gold or dark yellow text would also look nice but as you say many have been there done that, although you will be the one to wear it so if it tickles your fancy, go for it!

Purple isn't bad choice either, but green IMO doesn't fuse well with the rest of the color combo of light blue LCD and gold hardware...that's just me, others may disagree.

Just my 2 cents...good luck and enjoy the modding!!!

    Awaiting pics

If you can pull off that purple like the other watch did, then by all means, go for the purple. That is too sick a color combination not to try it. You're the one who gets to wear it everyday, not the G Shock Forum. Any jewel toned color combination would go well with that gold as well. From emerald green, ruby red, or a turquoise blue. Look forward to seeing the pics.

I picked blue. I think the gold could look nice with the blue. How about a blue camo?
