    What Makes MR-Gs So Special?

G-Fans - I'm a long time G-Shock fan owning dozens of squares, Master of G, and G-Steel models but I'm contemplating my first MR-G, the MRGB1000B-1A. I like the idea of a "premium" G and the mid-size model makes it more versatile and less garish, for lack of a better term. Value is obviously subjective but since this is the first time I've evaluated a MR-G, and the retail is significant relative to the other G-Shock's I've owned, I'm looking for some feedback from the group. What makes the MR-Gs so special? Functionality appears to be largely in-line with most other solar/atomic Gs despite being priced multiples higher. Also, I'm a habitual flipper so would likely look to move it down the road at some point - how do the MR-Gs tend to resell? Help!

You're paying for materials, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and other less concrete things like marketing, etc.

FWIW the MR-G cases are made in the same factory that produces cases for Grand Seiko and Credor watches.

AFAIK the MR-Gs generally do not hold their value well during resale, so if you're a flipper you might be better off picking up a used one and avoiding that big initial hit from depreciation. (similar to when you buy a new car)

BTW, I have the MRG-G1000B-1A. Superb watch!!

First get the best deal you can, put it on your wrist once, take some pictures of it, Jack up your price place your add, done, all the rest is irrelevant.
Your just going to flip the darn thing anyway!

Hmm I’m tempted. If I could find it 30-40 off I don’t imagine I’d lose money on a flip in 3-6 months but who knows.

Hey I’d keep her for 3-6 months (normally how long I keep a piece before flipping)!

OP, I think your question generally applies to the high end watch market, and so do the answers as well.

I very much admire the MRG 1000 series. It is a gorgeous watch in every respect. Sadly it is out of my league.

Re: What Makes MR-Gs So Special?

The MR-G is indeed something special. The fit and finish is outstanding quality, worthy of the Yamagata PPL Time4playnow aptly mentioned above. IMHO no watch makes a statement like an MR-G does. The DLC feels great against the skin, gives the watch a unique look and protects the titanum well.

When I was on the market for an MR-G G1000B I was ready to pay retail, but a once-in-a-lifetime deal for a pre-owned watch came along. It's true that it's not easy to sell an MR-G so they don't hold their value well. On the other hand they are watches built to take the harshest treatment, but people generally take care of them (for obvious reasons). So you have a better chance of finding one in mint condition whan with other watches. Mine was manufactured in 2015, I bought it in November 2018 and it was absolutely sportless. It still is, despite me wearing it approx. every other day.
