I'm not sure exactly where it comes from, but Casio assure us it's quite harmless.

    Re: White Stuff?

I've heard a few explanations about the white stuff :

    salt from the air
body odour seeping through the strap
chemicals in the band reacting to the atmosphere
    pollution
high and or low air pressure releasing nitrates from the strap
    soap and other household detergents
white bits trying to escape from the blackness of the strap

Take your pick. At least it brushes off easily

Casio recommend just wiping it off with a cloth (which works fine). You never know though, it might get your teeth extra white.

Can anyone do a spectral analysis on it? Then we'll know for sure.

Interesting, My daughter is wearing my G2300 with the nylon strap and called to let me know that the sunscreen she was wearing was turning it white.

Not certain how to get it off. Not really to concerned.

I've always assumed it was salt from sweat, but don't know for sure.

Nah, that's the stuff on the inside; a distant relative to "fromunda cheese"
