I wouldn't call myself a 'big fan' but I do like the 5400/5700 models. Among the vintage screwbacks they are undervalued at present, IMO, as the bezels for them are hard to source and they usually sell without them.
The DW-5700 has, in addition to the better known DW-5700C-1V (silver version) and the DW-5700C-9V (gold version), a scarce model with a gold LCD and - if you can find one - a bezel that has all gold letters. The words ALARM CHRONOGRAPH are in blue on the dial. It's the DW-5700C-9GV. I have one, but without the bezel. Here's a cool 5700 I had a while back that had the bull bars:

I'd say I nearly prefer them over the DW-5x00 models just based on the way they sit on my particular wrist. I want to try and get one of the screwback reissues w/the 1545 module someday.... I had the 20th anniversary model, but although it was a beauty, the red screen wasn't great for all-around wear.

Man, I miss my own DW5700C-9V. First G-Shock I ever owned, lost it to some uncouth low-lifes who are probably in jail by now.

Didn't know about the value of screwbacks in those days; all I could remember was those little notches were a pain to clean out.

The 5700s are definitely among my favorite...it's just a shame that there aren't that many around and that they don't produce a lot of new models anymore. I only have two in my collection...a 20th ann. model, and a TDP denim model. Love them both, but don't wear them much because of how difficult it is to find replacement parts.

    Here's a pic of a modded one I had for a while...

Here are some photos of my DW-5400/DW-5700 collection. In addition to those old/rare G-Shocks, I'm trying to pick up some photography skills. LOL!
