why do some sellers hide serial numbers in auctions?

Is there a valid reason why an otherwise-reputable eb*y seller with great feedback would digitally blank out a serial number on a G-shock caseback?

I have seen this curious behavior a couple of times and am curious.

    thx

Stock photographs? Maybe the seller is auctioning off several of the same models and they don't want to take pictures of each watch. This would prevent the problem of the buyer getting a watch and the serial not matching the picture in their auction.

I do think it has to be something with privacy of the seller/owner. Most people block away their licence plate of their car to if published on the net. I actually was thinking this when I was watching Kwan's car (the guy from the Frogman Party). Looks a bit strange, a Japanese licenceplate over a German one...
