    GB-6900B-1:

Update 12.07.2018: Coupling Motorola Moto G6 Plus with Android 8.0 Oreo no problem.

Until now I could only activate the music control. But that's the most important thing for me.

Update 13.07.2018: All other functions go now as well.

Congrats to your GB-5600B! I've got the exact same model incoming, can't wait until it's here! :)

I've read through all the threads and it seems like you're one of the few that did the update on the Bluetooth models. I could not find clear answers to my question though, maybe you could help me out?

How do you see whether the module is the updated version or not?
And what is the exact way to get it updated? Should I go to an official Casio dealer and simply ask him to do it?
Does Casio update it free of charge (I'd be surprised)?
And since I bought it used just like you, do I need the original receipt?

    Thanks in advance!

I had one of those before. Functionally it is superior but somehow I didn't really clicked with it. I guess its because of its association with a hand phone that makes it less of a timepiece, less future proof. Sometimes, less is more.

If I got your question right, the answer is in the model letters. GB-5600AA and GB-5600AB are the first generation. GB-5600B is the second generation with the updated module.

That's what I thought initially, but it seems that it's not that simple since rcaddict recently got a GB-5600B and stated it's not updated.

I think that when it comes to G-Shocks, there is an evolution of features that is perceived as forward progress.

Removal of certain features is interpreted as steps backwards, or inferiority.

Solar charging is perceived as a step forward. This watch lacks it. The two year battery life underscores this.
Wavecepter is perceived as a step forward. This watch lacks it. The bluetooth, I assume, is supposed to be a workaround, and I can accept that.

But the lack of solar charging undermines what I think are the three greatest strengths of this watch: The display, LED backlight, and vibration alarm.

I think Bluetooth is way to go. There are Ediffice models with solar and Bluetooth but they are huge that's for now. As far as Casio keeps app running and updated it should be compatible for 10 or so years. Which is in terms of modern technology life span is leap from pyramid building for first dynasty to mars exploration.
But if support drops yep, it's a toast.
    Pebble watch anyone?
